Unhappy Electrical gremlin

Have 1997 EB Expedition. Have weird random pattern of interior lights, door ajar light, delayed door locking and key wrning gong when engine shut off with key in ignition. Tipical action is: Interiror and running board lights will not go off when doors closed, when leaving car or on entering and starting to drive. Lights go off from immediatly to several minutes later. Sometimes when starting car and driving, the "door ajar" panel light stays on even after checking all doors including back glass. The door locks do not activate until the light warning goes off which is sometimes one to five minutes. Seems like there must be one controlling module somewhere. Help

Sounds more like a bad door sensor to me...

You know what I'm talking about... the plunger that detects if the door is open or closed.

Pop the rubber covering off of them and shoot them with some WD40. I know I've heard of others mentioning that theirs was sticking and causing 'gremlin like' problems.

GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME TO F150online.com!

agree with the ROCK, spray some WD-40 in the door latch areas and soak 'em good.. If the problem still persists, then you got problems from the door ajar switch or possibly a GEM module concern.

Good Luck

This applies to the cute little furry one that acts like he's your friend too... just remember that...we almost had a bad situation in one suburban area a few years ago...

Thanks for the door sensor idea. Will try. I sure won't feed the gremlin's after midnight.

Thanks for the ideas of the door switch. Most cars I have had have a switch in the door jam that closes when the door is shut.
In my Expedition, there is no visable switch. Wondering if it is part of the door latch or the hold open bar. Sprayed both with WD40 and hope this helps. Anyone know where the switch actually is located.

The door ajar switch is located just under the lock assembly inside the door. What happens is that dirt/debris wedges in the ball at the switch and causes it to stick. (Causing the door ajar light to stay on along with the interior lights.

Hope this answered your question!!

Would you mind elaborating on this a little? If the switch is in the door, why would spraying WD40 inside the kickpanel area help? I have the same issue and spray it and it works for about a day, then comes back. The plunger is always greasy though.

Is the door ajar swith in the door or in the kickpanel area where the plunger goes into that area. My plunger is screwed to the door and doesn't enter the door.

I figured it out finally. The switch is in the door below the latch that closes into the door jamb. Not in the kick panel area.

Thanks!!
