Need to find the bulbs in the dash, not 194's
Ok, I installed white faced gauges and took off the factory overlay. Everyone said that the bulbs were 194's. No problem I thought. I bought a bunch of 194's in the colors I wanted. I tore into it tonight, and well... they aren't 194's. The bulbs are tiny, really tiny. They have a plastic base and there's no way a 194 will fit in there. The numbers off the light are VCH C8N on the top line and then 14V 90mA. Does anyone have suggestions? Can I even get them in colors? I've looked online with no luck.
Thanks.
Thanks.
#37, same as the ash tray light bulb.
That is what I have on the bulb replacement chart. It also makes note that there actually are some 194s in there as well, but does not give the count on each type. I want to say that the 194s are for the indicator lamps ( like the high beam indicator lamp ).
Take the bulb out of the ash tray to see what it looks like, and maybe take it into the store if you want to be sure.
As for colored...got me never looked.
Good luck, post back if the ash tray bulb is the same as what you saw back there.

I will check. Of, course it will have to wait until the weekend. I hate having the nights so busyI can't work on my truck. Then the weekendsget full too. I will look at the parts store tonight if I get a chance. Thanks for the help and I will update you all.

What would I have to do to change my dash lights to blue? I mean the factory green lights that are on the instrument panel, face gauges, and all the other green stuff. How hard would this be and what kinds of bulbs would I need?
Eposey,
I think we need to find a place that sells the bulbs. Do you mean changing the "glow"? The new gauge face I used changed the illumination of the numbers, etc. There is still "white" like coming behind the pivot of the needles. I want to change the bulbs for the rest of the indicator lights because the factory uses a colored filter in the gauge face.
So if anyone knows where to buy colored #37's that would be great. If not, can I use a paint or possibly nail polish to get some of the color?
Thanks.

They are 74's. Check out lightlens.com. click on "colored glass or red bulbs". then scroll all the way down to the bottom.. on that site they are $10.80/ pair. I could not get my lights out of the little plastic base so I may have to spend the money, otherwise Ebay has some for .99 a piece, but that is without the base. Does anyone know if you can just pull them out, I tried and I couldn't get them out.
For some strange reason my wife brought home a catalog for specialty lamps and bulbs (50 pages) last friday. I couldn't find your bulb number in it but I think it might be worth a shot. Company name is Interlight of Hammond, Indiana. contact them at 1-800-743-0005 or interlight@mail.com or www.interlight.biz

I passed on the $11 a pair, because there is about 3 lamps for illumination and about 15 for the warning lights, brake, abs, etc. Pulled them all out last night, colored them with a blue permenant marker, about 5 coats, and it worked. also, pulled out the headlight switch assembly, took it apart and there is only one light in there. it has a green gel cap on it. removed the gelcap, scraped off the residue, and colored that blue too. now it all matches.
