Installing OEM fog lights on F150
Installing OEM fog lights on F150
Can someone tell me where I can find complete instructions to include picture diagrams of how to wire my new OEM fog lights to my 99 F 150. If so you can save me $135.00. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to help me out.

Bill,
I have not see a set of directions for just that.
First is your truck a XL or XTL ?
If it is an XL, the the wiring harness is most likey not there, so the complete harness would be needed, not just the lights.
At least this is how it is on the 2001, I have seen where the 99 XLT did not have the harness for the key pad, so maybe the fog light harness is also not installed. ??
This information is from the 2001 Electrical manual, so that it with a grain of salt, at the start.
2nd I already posted this to your other post, but if memory serves me correctly the stock driving light switch is part of the headlight switch, which means new headlight switch time.
Once you put in the new switch, then the circuit 188 is active through the multi function switch ( turn signal lever with the high beams, etc ).
The next is to install the fuse in the central junction box in position # 27 with a 5amp fuse ( the fuse box under the dash ). to power the coil of the fog lamp relay.
The next is to install the fog lamp relay in the battery junction box ( the fuse box under the hood ), and install fuse #9 with a 15 amp fuse for the power to the relay contacts.
Under the front bumper is the connectors for the fog lamps, which you plug the lights into.
With the switch fuses and relay installed, if the remainder of the harness is installed, the fog lamps should light.
Maybe checking first if the harness is under the front bumper on the truck, for the fog lights is a good place to start.
If you are missing the 2 pin connectors under there, then the remainder of the harness is needed, and god only knows how much of it is missing and where from.
The only sure thing for instructions that I can give, is to get a Ford service manual, or at the very least the electrical wiring manual for your year truck so you can see what is needed.
If you could let us know what trim level it is, and if the 2 pin connectors are under the front bumper, that would be a good starting place.
The other question that I put in your other thread; is this an actual factory set of fog lights, not a Ford branded aftermarket set ? The question on the stock switch location threw me off a bit, but that could be my failing memory for the 99 year F-150.

Steve,
Thanks so much for both of your replies. The kit I bought came complete with lights, valance, wiring harness, relay battery harness and a new switch seperate of the light switch. My trim is XL, so I needed everything. This is positively genuine Ford merchandise. I wonder if there is a chance that since this truck did not come from the factory with fog lights the new switch was added because of the lack of function the stock light switch on my XL? Maybe I should go to the junkyard and get a switch from a truck with foglights and see if it will fit the harness I recieved. As a matter of fact I need to see if it will fit now on my switch. I will do that, but then I think I will run into much of the same problem many people have about the fog lights not running when they want them to and only on low beam. I guess I will see. Anyway thanks so much for your very detailed responses. Can you tell me if I was to change the gauges out of my XL to some out of a XLT (with rpm) is the wiring there just to hook up or is the entire wiring needed to measure the rpms. If its a matter of having it there and not being used that would be great. Thanks so much.

Bill,
With the XL trim, and not knowing where the fog lamp switch harness is in and not in, don't bother looking for a head lamp switch, this might be more trouble then it is worth to try to put in ( in terms of making harensses and taping lines to mate into the harness you have ).
The electrical manual does not show this kit, so that is also out.
Sorry this is not much help.
As for swaping the instrument clusters to get the tach function, it does not work that way doing a straight up swap yourself.
The PATS info is stored on the module that plugs into the gauge panel, and that module is for the specific type of gauge layout.
i.e. if you tried to put on a gauge panel with a tach, you would be missing the connector from the non-tach module.
If you swap the whole cluster a dealer needs to do this to have the keys programed to the module for the PATs info.
A member with the name jefflaws did a write up on this a few months back, if you search for his name, you'll find it if you want to double check it.
The easy thing is to spend the money on the 2-1/16" tach from someone like AutoMeter, and install it on the right hand side of the steering column.
Over at FTW, they have a how to on this install.
http://www.fordtruckworld.com/howto/tachinstall.asp
Take a look at it, and see if that fits what you need, to add the tach. it is less then coverting the cluster with all the labor and parts needed
While you are over there, maybe take a post to see if anyone has done the fog lamp kit you have, with the stock switch ??
Never can tell you might find a quick answer doing a search over there.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help on this, the Ford aftermarket one is one I have never seen yet.
Post back if you find out something, so the next member that is trying it, can find your info.

I was just going to post a request for help re: installing "genuine" Ford fog lights into the front bumper of my '97 150 XLT (F150 PICKUP FOG LAMP (97) PN F75Z15A254BB).
My headlight switch pulls out on the parking light and headlight setting, and I have wires running behind each side of the front bumper, behind the fog light black plastic blanks set there by the factory.
My questions: first, the wires that are there now come from the headlight harness, and have a white plastic connector right where the light would go. In other words - the wire comes into a (male) white plastic clip, plugs into another (female) white plastic clip and then keeps going. Ths is the same on both the right and left sides. Does the fog light have a "t" connector that goes "inline", so that this wire plugs in and out of it? (I don't have the lights yet.)
The second question is something I can go out and check - is there a fog light relay necessary, and if so where is it and what does it look like? It's going to rain all day today, but I plan to at least pull the truck into the garage and check to see if those wires I mention above get hot when I pull the headlight switch. If not, that either means that those aren't the wires (but what else would they be?) or a fuse and/or relay are missing.
Is an XLT "prewireed" for fogs (it seems like it)? Does it require an additional fuse or relay or can I just buy the lights and plug them in?
Thanks to all in advance.

Bill,
May I ask where you bought this kit?
I'm thinking of doing this to my 2002 Lariat, and wanted to use the stock stuff, if possible.

I have a 2002 XLT and I have the stock wiring harness how do I 'activate' it? I read 'SSCULLY's' post, but do I have to get a new switch or can I just tap into one of the wires somewhere else to activate the relay?
Also anyone have any tips on installing the fog lights I just tried a lil' while ago and its going to be a pain in the ***.

Hazard269,
You need the switch that pulls out to activate the driving lamps, after adding the fuses and relay to the system noted above.
The would be if you bought the individual lights and the switch. It seems that there is a kit that has a seperate harness so it can be used over all body trims ( XL & XLT ), that has a seperate switch that needs to be mounted on the dash some where.
The lsit above should do it for you, but first verify that the 2 pin connectors are under the truck, by the bumper in the stock mounting locations.
Also if these are the same ones that are on the 4x4 then the front valance / air dam needs to be the same style to take these.

Well I have most of it figured out. My truck does have the connectors, but I found this out after I ran a new harness. The only reason I would see you would need the new sitch would be so you could turn the lights on and off via the relay. Well couldnt you take the 'turn on wire' for the relay and just 'tap' it into the 'turn on wire' for the headlights, so that way when you turn on the head lights it turns on the fog lights also?
Well my concern is this:
If I can do that where does the wire to the fogs come into the truck? Is it all ready wired into the wiring harness/socket? If so which wire is it?

Ok now my turn. I have a 2000 Sport with XLT trim. I looked today and noticed what looks like factory wiring under the bumper under each light. Bobz said something about his connectors being white, mine are blue. If these are for the fog lights what else should I look for as far as wiring inside the cab? Now heres what I have as far as wiring to the light switch.
#6 Black
#8 Blue/Orange
#9 Red/Yellow
#10 Brown/White
#11 Tan/Red
#12 Brown
Now I have a third wiring plug behind the switch which is capped off and hooks to nothing. What could/would that be for?
