Looking For Advice From A Ford Technician

I recently had my truck into the dealer in order to get it to pass an emissions check. While it was in the shop they reflashed my ECM. I need to be able to get the update code for the ECM. I've been back to the dealership and spoken to the technician. He said the ECM was automatically updated during his check/repair. He said he didn't know how to get the actual code (I don't think he was holding anything back here). I have went directly to Ford through their Web site and they told me that I would have to get this information from the dealer. I called the Service Manager and he told me the same as the technician. I'm between a rock and a hard spot here and am not sure how to get this information. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When the tech reflashed the PCM, the "code" is displayed on the screen. He just never bothered to write it down. They would have to go back and attempt the reflash.

Thanks for the info. It's going back in tomorrow so that he can "write it down".

Uhh, I dont remember where on WDS it says what the new one is. And if its already got the most current program in it, i dont think it will go any further than saying that it already contains the most current calibration.

Im guessing that the "tear tag" is needed for like a chip or something? If so, whats your old tear tag, and i'll see if i can track it down. Out of the 2 or 3 PCM reprograms i might do in a days work, i never see what the new calibration tear tag is. But I am also never looking for it.

I think at the most it might show a engineering number like F8TE 12A650 BAE or something like that on WDS, but i dont think that will do any good for what you need it for.

Jeff,

The engineering code is exactly the code that I'm looking for (well maybe not exactly but as an example). I actually tried to e-mail you last night before I started this thread but found out you didn't want to receive them (by the I wasn't thinking and don't blame you given your proffesion). The real problem is that I don't have the original code to start with, no engine decals. I do have the code that's inside the door jam but that isn't the same as the one you are talking about. I'll see what happens tomorrow and may get back with you. I appreciate your offer.

Jefflaws.
Yeah, that's "code" I was talking about. Where it says on the WDS to fill out the emissions decal and stick it under the hood.
The calibration code will be on OASIS.
There is a way to get the "tear tag" code. But you have to dig deep into the WDS. I think it's under "PCM info".

You can plug the vehicle right back into the WDS, and it will tell you all the info you want/need to know.
Just gotta know where to look.

Also if your parts department is using CPD to look up stuff, you can enter 9300 in the search field and go to the calibration list that gives the standard cal no. (like 454er00....) , tear tag, and PCM part no.

Took it in this morning and they were able to give me the engineering code. I went back and talked to the Tech the same day I found out that it was re-flashed (I found out the hard way) and he said he couldn't give it to me. I then went to Ford through the Web, they called me back and told me I had to get it through the dealer. I then called the Service Manager and he didn't know how to get it for me either. I took the info that was provided to me here and what do you know all is well. It only took me 2 weeks to get this taken care of. She ought to be back to normal by the end of the week. Thanks for all the replies.
