didn't notice that much!!
I guess people read but don't get the message.....
I never said that the superchip does not work....I said the difference in performance was so minimal that is was almost unnoticed, except for the shifting (as was stated 1-2 upshift). The 2-3 upshift was somewhat improved and the 3-4 upshift seemed unchanged, except at WOT.....I DON'T DRIVE AT WOT all the time....hence no benefit as advertised.
I am admitting that the FIPK and chip and cat back are far more expensive than they are worth.....some people are simply afraid to admit they spent $1000 for a $50 benefit....
Again, after removing the chip and the Airaid, I am getting BETTER MPG by over 1.5 mpg, the day-to-day driving has honestly improved, and my truck actually climbs hills better on the interstate than it did with the chip and FIPK.....
People talk a lot about a "butt dyno", and mine tells me that I am better off without the overpriced aftermarket add ons....Ford really does have a better idea for most of us....
Those of us that live in a world of 4-5000 rpms daily should enjoy all of the stuff....but for about twice the money, a supercharger would do a superior job!!

Hi 97F150..this sometimes happens!
Hi DavidZ.
I understand what your saying. I just find it hard to believe that those mods. decreased performance.
I understand the cost VS gains. Its always been that way. Seems to me, most of us were looking for best bang for the buck. I know i was. Seems most got best bang for buck. You didnt.
No question about real world..right now gains..Supercharger. For me...that was $4000.00..thats when i researched alternatives. No..no big regrets on best bang for the buck...cause i understood the differences. Cost VS HP/TQ
Luck has nothing to do with it. My first mod. was cat-back exhaust. That was a noticeable increase...no..not night/day..just noticeable. No..not like a blower.
Was looking for a little more...that was a Superchip. Again.. noticeable...no..not night/day..just noticeable. Again..not like a blower.
For most here...those mods have worked. For some reason..they havent worked for you. Do you have any idea why they have cut performance on your truck? Chip/FIPK...the cat-back should be doing its job with better flow/maybe not?
If my mods. had decreased performance...rather than improve..i would be unhappy to. Still...seems like something not set up correctly on your truck?
Good luck...OT
BTW...Im getting gains above/below 4000rpms. My truck really heavy...so i dont abuse the WOT...although thats fun.

Perhaps for some there is no increase or even a decrease. I guess it's possible. I think if that's true than there would only be a hand full who don't get the gains, for whatever reason. I think it's too bad.
The three "best bang for the buck" mods did provide noticeable gains for me. Each one provided a different "feel". I don't have dyno results to confirm this but I can tell a difference in a vehicle that I have put many miles on. I pay attention to what my vehicle is doing.
I first noticed the difference with the Superchip at low speed, low rpm. There was better response. It got better as the rpms got up there but it was noticable in every day driving. I also noticed an increase in gas mileage right away, even getting on it.
Perhaps it's not that people don't get the message, or that people are afraid to admit why they spent a grand on things that will not, by themselves, provide Earth shattering results. If it were possible to do what we do with a grand for fifty bucks, than we would!
When we go to the ball game and pay $4.50 for a hot dog, it's not because were dumb. It's because we are hungry and we don't have the facilities to make a hot dog for our selves.
Ford does a fine job with our trucks. Some of us are hungry for better performance, even if it's a little better. We don't have the facilities to retune the truck so we pay to satisfy out appetite.
I have done some of the the lower and higher priced mods. Yes the gains for the high priced mods are much more noticeable but that is reason for the big price tag. It's almost four grand for a hundred hp, so if you get at least twenty five for a grand you right on par. Chances are you will do a bit better than that with the "three".
Maybe I am just dumb, but my truck runs awsome, slow, fast, whatever, it's just awsome. Sure Ford can do that but the price tag is even bigger if you have them do it.

davidzog,
I know I am one of the most skeptical posters, just read some of my threads about chips and blowers.....now I have a superchip and I am getting a blower! ha! I still wish I could just get a edlebrock intake (here I go again) and a holley 4 barrel slapp'em on a 350 chevy (oops! wrong engine) and white smoke my tires!!!
Anyway, you did say something I totally agree with. The aftermarket air intake system may increase midrange and top end hp but I bet you lose some low end torque. When I modified my stock airbox (cut a hole in it) it seemed fine. But, when I removed the "air silencer" from the stock air intake tube, I lost low end torque. Mike T. agreed that it may have to do with air velocity. Since, the air silencer is shaped like a horn with the large end taking in the air and the smaller end increasing the air velocity as it goes into the throttle body. With an after market air intake system, it appears that they all use a intake tube that is the same diameter from the airfilter end to the throttle body end. Therefore, air velocity is reduced.
Infact, I have been trying to make my own air intake tube that is shaped like a horn or "velocity stack", then I said "screw it" and went and put a deposit down on a MagnaCharger. ha!

Well, Iron Horse, I appreciate your honesty....I agree that there is a definite loss of torque at low rpm with an FIPK....but it DOES work at mid and high rpm ranges.....agreed......
I never felt any long end gains, and that is what I am concerned about....the ads say that there is a constant gain throughout the entire rpm range....I never felt a darn thing....my contention is, again, that the chip is a waste of money for normal driving, unless you spend you life in the upper rpm ranges....
Also, I NEVER saw any fuel economy gains, and I drive pretty easy....mpg got progressively worse as I added more stuff....and I have seen this same comment posted b many people over the past year.....mpg actually went down.....
As far as hotdogs (this is silly), I contend that if no one paid the losey $4.50 per dog, the price would come down in a heartbeat....the vendors would not want to be stuck with thousands of rotting hot dogs....it is price gouging in its simplest form, and a ig consumer rip off......

Just Installed mine Last night
First impression was, hummm, ok where is performance increase? I could feel the change in shifts, but that was about it at first. I really didn't down on it much. This morning driving to work in traffic, I quickly noticed how much better the trottle response and acceleration was. I mean, come on, I knew I wouldn't be winning any drag races in an Expedition, but man, this thing was some get-up-and go now. It was much funner to drive this morning than ever before. I think I am going to like the Superchip, but not the higher price gas. Oh well, I quess we have to pay to play!
Hi DavidZ.
This is a great site....Alot of good input.
I understand your unhappy. However...ill ask again...
Im curious...Have you talked to the person/co. you bought chip from? To find out about your concerns.
Have you talked to K&N? Again..to find out about your concerns.
As i recall...with Superchip...it was never sold...solely..to increase mpg. Theres a tech. reason why you might get better mpg..ill leave that to them. I do agree...some got increase...some didnt.
Under normal driving conditions...really going for mpg...how many here actually got decrease in mpg with similiar mods?
That would be interesting to know. Also..opinions..as to WHY!
Go for the blower next time.
Good luck...OT

Hi Old Timer....
I did not do all the upgrades for fuel economy, although that was promised by all the vendors....
I was looking for better get up and go, a little more torque, and firmer shifting, and hoped that the mpg would at least stay the same....
What I experienced was a firmer 1-2 shift and that's it....not much for almost $1000 in aftermarket parts and a lot of work...
I have noted that Mike, the Superchip guy, has not responded on this thread, and I know he reads all of this stuff....
I did not expect a hot rod truck, but I was expecting the products to live up to their advertising....in my case they failed dismally....and in many other cases that have also been posted on this site.....the Superchip ads on this site clearly state Increased performance AND mpg!!!!!! If it is advertised, then it should perform....is that not false advertising otherwise????
By the way, I do agree that this site is fantastic...I have learned a lot about my truck and I have found it extremely interesting to read other's opinions, whether or not I agree.....

Performance increase
I defenitly can feel the difference now! I just can't believe davidzog couldn't tell a difference with his chip. It seems the more I drive the better it gets
. I don't drive like a speed freak or anything, just normal driving in the 2K to 4K RPM range. I've got dual exhaust with glasspacks and when It gets wound up to over 4K, it sounds like a race car, so I try to stay out of it as much as I can. It's just there if I need it.
Another thing I've noticed is how much more power I've got now with the AC running. It's like I don't even have the AC on now. I can definately tell there is more hp there.

Davidzog,
Trying to cast a negative inference as you have from the fact that I have not responded to what you have said in this thread is not only completely inappropriate and presumptive as heck on your part, it is also grossly incorrect. But then so are a number of other things you have posted in this thread.
Just for the record, I'm going to be *very* clear about this.............................................. ......this "gentleman" was never "promised" or guaranteed mileage gains by us as he has claimed. No if's ands or butts about it, we flatly deny his outlandish accusation.
What utter crappola....................................

Wow, even when I was trying to get a rise out of anyone on this site, I was never honored with..... "What utter crappola" ......ha!
and while I am here..........
My mid and top end definitely improved with the Superchip. I know my mileage went up because, before the chip, at one half of tank of use, I was averaging 200 miles. After the chip, I went to 240 to 260 miles.
But, lately my mileage has went down and the reason for this is ..........I keep driving at 100 plus, mph all the time!!!!! I am going to have to lower my truck! I feel like I am about to go airborne ha!
Chevy 1500 stock trucks must have a governor ? There is a chevy from work that goes the same way home everyday. Some times he ends up behind me. On a long stretch of highway, he trys to speed up and pass me. With the superchip at highway speeds, I accelerate faster than the chevy and widern the gap between us. He can not keep up with me and backs off. Just the ability to do that has made the superchip the best d*** mod. for the money for me!
Now, if only NPP would come out with a increased air velocity air intake system and .............

HI!... That's funny! I have a "TON" of mods on my truck and are pulling WAY over 300H.P and also have 4.10 gears. I can go 732KMS on one tank of fuel. That's at 70MPH at 2400RPM. I've never figured it ot but I think I get pretty good gas milage for what I have done.
