Hard Downshift from 2nd to 1st

Hello Peeps!

My truck has been doing an abrupt jerk while downshifting from 2nd to 1st at approximately 2-3 mph when coming to a complete stop. It only happens when light on the brakes coming to a smooth stop. The truck jerks right when it shifts down into 1st just before coming to a complete stop - sometimes more extreme then others. Under moderate to heavy braking, the deceleration and downshifting is normal.
I don't know if this is a tranny issue or if my Edge messed something up with my truck's ECM?

Suggestions?

Thanks all!

Return the tune to stock and remove the Edge, see if it still does it.

You DO know that with that intake and the Edge tune you are running too lean? Good way to cook your valves. You need custom tuning to overcome that.

Yes, it I do know about the running of the Edge tune and intake will cause a lean mixture.

I have only run the programmer stock with the intake thus, the shifting issue occurs while running in stock mode.

TrueBlue, I deleted the other thread you started in Transmissions on this subject. Please don't start multiple threads on a single topic. It leads to confusing responses that waste everyone's time, including yours.

Thanks,

- Jack

If you are running it stock, I'd go see the dealer. There are a bunch of TSB's on the 6R80, and I believe one of them addresses this issue with a TCM reflash.

I had shifting issues with my gryphon. Never downshifted right with it. Some trucks seem to have a hard time with it. Definitely do like was said and return to stock.

Not at all sure this applies.

1. Completely different tranny

2. Completely different calibrations ( his is also canned, yer was custom )

3. OP has a separate TCM - you do not.

Thank you all for your input. Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in my near future. I'll post the results.

Have a relaxing Sunday,

It was worse on the canned. But my point was I see that a lot with the edges. Some trucks have issues with the shifting.

I did have a Gryphon but never ran the custom tunes because they never ran right. Bill and I could never get up with each other to dial them in. The hard shift manifested itself then.
I converted back to Edge Evo CTS a week ago, while still running Stock mode, hoping it would positively impact my issue to no avail. I am running nothing right now and still have the issue, so maybe flashing the ECM is what I might ultimately need.

Not the ECM - the TCM. Separate computer with a 6R80.

I'm glad you're getting this into the hands of your dealer, TrueBlueFX. What's the current mileage on the truck?

Just turned 90K miles. I've pretty much babied the truck and I will have had it exactly 5 years on 03/10.
I have an appointment this Saturday at my local Ford dealership. I will post the outcome.

I didn't know the 09-10 6R80s down shifted from 2nd to 1st. The 11s and up down shift from 3rd to 1st.

Do you remember if it down shifted from 2nd to 1st before it was tuned?
