PCM not cycling thru

I had a few issues a few weeks ago with my truck. replaced a spark plug and that fixed it. but then the check engine light came back on saying that it was running rich on bank 1. I decided to return the truck to stock to see if that would fix it. drove it around and no light so I returned it back to my 87 performance tune. now I am getting the P1000 code (no check engine light). I tried driving 4-5 mins between 50-60mph to get it to cycle thru. I have driven 800 miles in the last week and the PCM hasn't cycled thru.

What should I do?

My 5Star tunes also don't allow my PCM to read that it's ready, but if your truck has been returned to stock, it shouldn't be doing that.

As far as I know, a "tuned" truck will not show the P1000 code - it's turned off. But, it certainly CAN take a long time for the P1000 code to disappear once a tune is removed and the truck is returned to stock. I know in my case the code stayed on through over 50 miles of city driving when I tested this "feature" once.

Unless you are willing to go through a complete drive cycle sequence, which is somewhat complicated and tedious, I think you just have to live with it until it eventually disappears, which it will. Here's a link to the drive cycle "how to": http://www.obdii.com/drivecycleford.html

The only issue with a P1000 code is that it will probably cause your truck to fail an emissions check, because the PCM is reporting "not ready". It will not cause any other problems. If you need to pass an emissions test, just restore the tune before taking it in.

Edit: I just reread your first post and see you are getting the P1000 code with your tune installed. I think you need to contact the guy who wrote your tune. He should be able to fix this, if he knows what he's doing.

If you get this resolved, let me know what Mike does for you. I definitely need to get it taken care of with my truck as well, but have yet to talk to him about it.

thanks for all of the help. I will keep driving it until it goes away i guess. I don't have to smog my truck so no worry there. maybe I will return it to stock and see if it will reset.
