well loaded the stuff on my wifes hp. truck is now tuned for 91 octane and the new tires. Now how do i do the data logging and stuff like that? is it needed prior to loading the custom tunes or just afterward? ordered a 91 economy, towing, and performance tune today via email. time will tell.

All right folks, interesting stuff here. Since purchase of the SCT x4 from MPT I have been corresponding with Ken Osborne who is a senior programmer for MPT about what I want from my truck. I managed this because he couldn't find the file I said I sent him (email address error-all is good) but while I had him I asked him about the cold air intakes and resonator (I have a custom made Borla setup and left the resonator on). What Ken told me: they can tell no difference on the DYNO with or without resonator. He said it is not restrictive and only serves to cut down on interior noise and may lower exterior noise slightly. He said their ecoboost test mule still has its resonator and has already achieved 600rwhp with it still affixed.........WOW! (that loud thud many people just heard was the ecoboost guys passing out and hitting the floor after reading 600rwhp, may need an ice pack for that knot on your head ecoboost guys).
Anyway, on to the CAI's. Ken said that the AFE CAI (I specifically asked about the dry one) is a great add on and is good for an additional measurable 10rwhp on the 5.0. He did not go into detail for the ecoboost, but said that the custom tunes we already have do not have to be altered as the AFE is the same diameter as the stock MAF and intake so the information supplied by the MAF is sufficient without needing a change in tune. Meaning, the tunes I just ordered will be fine now and later when I do order the AFE. Just letting ya'll now. first email I got from him was yesterday (Sunday) and just emailed again today (memorial day)---those guys apparently do not take breaks. Should have my custom tunes Wednesday.

oh one more thing. He suggested a street or race setting on performance tunes they create. He said for longevity reasons a higher line pressure is desirable on performance tunes....I had selected chill for mine, he made a suggestion to make the tranny last longer, so FYI!

I have had my X4 tuner for about a month and I was apparently driving my truck wrong. lol
I was only getting 8.5 mpg with an economy tune. I couldn't figure out what was different so I went back to stock and the truck started to get 16 mpg.

I was babying the truck when I had the tune installed and not when I was stock. I realized this and went back to economy and my mpg went to 17.4 so far.

It is amazing how driving slow could affect the gas mileage. I would've never thought it unless I saw it for myself. Goin on a nice long drive today so I am hoping it will go to 18, that would be nice. I just have to stop thinking that slow means better mpg. Especially on a 7k lb truck. lol

Figured I would post this tidbit for anyone else that did what I did.

UPDATE- Boy I was a little disappointed. My=e being a little over anxious didnt look at the km/mpg. lmao the 17 was kilometers haha. So in fact it is getting 14.8 at the moment but I was going 80 most of the time as well as stepping on it to pass. Not what I expected but much better than 8.5 mpg. lol A few more tweaks and I think she will do better. Cheers

the total test trip on stock tune and econo tune was same mileage and driving style. I did the manual mpg test and 14.2 on econo and 13.8 with stock tune. Sounds to me like theres an issue with the econo tune right??

update2
Well Mike at 5star is awesome. He is quick and gets right back to you when you send an email. We are trying a new economy tune making the truck a little leaner and though its not fully recommended for 70-80 mph the truck runs smoother.

Rather than shop for rock bottom price, I'd recommend you buy it from one of the reputable custom tuning houses.

Buying the programmer from someone other than a tuning house is only less expensive if you aren't going to be getting custom tunes. Otherwise, it's much more expensive to get them separately.

So, I just checked out Stage 3 Motorsports again and it's listed at $449 and 5 custom tunes from 5 Star Tuning. I tried out your "f150forum" coupon code and it came up invalid code. Is that an old offer? Or am I not going to the right part of the site?

the f150forum coupon code worked for me through MPT. its either $20 or 20 percent as I recall, I think $20 though, and free shipping as I recall. stage 3 has the better deal though on the CAI.

OYE.

That's no deal - it's canned. You will need to pay extra fer custom tunes.

MPT's price includes 3 custom tunes - and there is still a forum discount after that.

RPM outlet had crap support as well - they just want to push product.

74 HP and 124 Ft Lb's of Tq is plenty for my daily driver, and I am seeing 4 MPG's with the canned tune. I dont need a "custom tune" for my driver I dont race Vin Diesel on the weekends, but the best part about "canned tunes" is when I took it to the dealer and they flashed the PCM, I was not hunting down the tuner to take a week to get me more tunes because the device didnt support the new PCM update. I just plugged it in my pc and updated it in 5 min and was back in business. I understand the need for custom tunes but my f150 driver is not one of them. My lightning is another story.
