Edge Evolution question (15051)

Hey everyone, I'm about to purchase an Edge Evolution for my 2004 F150 5.4 FX4, and had some questions. I'm trying it out before I buy it, and I can't get it to work on my truck. The guy I'm buying it from said he set his truck back to stock before he sold the truck, but when I go to turn the key off then turn it on, it says that it is locked to another vehicle and must be set to stock settings before it can be used with mine. He doesn't have the truck anymore, and I was wondering if there's a way around this. The part number is 15051. I'm only buying it for $100 so I figured it was worth it.

You would have to contact Edge and pay them to unlock it for you. I'd take a pass on it.

If it's locked, it's locked. Not sure on the Edges, but SCTs must be unlocked by SCT and it costs $150 for them to do it.

I think Edge charges $75. You could call and find out for sure. But, I'm in glc's camp, and would pass on it.

Hi.

Yep - PHP charges $75 as well. http://www.gopowerhungry.com/_gryphon.shtml

Unless you can get it for ~$50 or so, I'd pass as well.

Now, I did buy a locked 15051 on the cheap, but I just use it for additional gauges via a homemade passthrough cable from a connected Scanguage II.

IF you elect to buy it and get it unlocked, let PHP do it - and order their custom calibrations while yer at it. New, these things are $369 from them.

good luck!

If your still looking on buying the Edge Evolution I would look at AutoAnything.com. They have a pretty good deal on them. Plus they always run sales on there website for 20% off and such. I believe I got mine for around $280.

Hi.

That's a good deal.

Here's the kicker though (caveat - applies only if you elect to run custom calibrations):

PHP Gryphon from PHP = $369 + 3 custom tunes (@ $30/each) = $459

Edge from AA = $280 (assuming sale) + 3 custom tunes (@$60/each) = $460

For that scenario, may as well buy it from the friendly 'llittle' guy family business with a face, support and a support forum - PHP. Custom tuning is half price if you buy the device from them. AA just pushes product - they have zero support themselves.

Custom tuning is well worth the price of admission - especially if there is no premium.

please help

So I just bought a 2007 F150 it had a edge 15051 tuner and I was messing with it and went to clear the codes that were on it and now it has been saying "clearing trouble codes" for the past 5 hours. How do I shut it off or reset it without messing everything up on the tuner.

Have you turned the ignition switch off? That might do it.

If that doesn't work, your battery could be low. Unplug the Evolution, charge the battery. Then after it is charged, turn on the ignition and plug it back in. It should boot normally.

I got the programmer for $25 from the guy since it was locked. Paid $99 to get it unlocked and updated, now it works like new. And I love it. I can actually watch how terrible my gas mileage is. But it's getting better cause it's teaching me what to do to keep the average MPG as high as possible. lol

Sounds good to me.

To get the best gas mileage, always drive downhill, with a tailwind.

Seriously though, don't put a lot of faith in the Average MPG numbers. You'll find they don't match the results you get using the old hand method of Miles Driven/Gallons Added at Fill up. The Instant MPG is good though for showing when you are putting a high demand on the gas supply and when you aren't.
