Gas mileage change

Hello everyone I'm new to the group and thanks for having me.
This might be a dumb question but I need to ask. I recently bought me another 150 2009 5.4 screw 4x4 lar. Had to take it to the dealer because the guy I bought from didn't bother to tell me he was having climate control problems. But the question I have is the week before taking it in the mileage meter said 13.8 mpg no matter how I drove now that I got it back it said 15.0 and each day gets better now I'm up to 16.3 and liking it a heck of a lot better that 13.8 scared me. Is there something the dealer done whiling having the dash completely out. Anyway it cost me 1400 to get 16.3 I guess lol.

They probably disconnected the battery for their work. It would reset the avg mpg and if you drive nicer/more hwy than the other guy, you'll get better mpg showing

That's my guess too. The guy before you probably towed a lot or was a lead foot. It would have went up gradually still but would have taken longer to get there.

Yup, they had to have reset the trip meter (by disconnecting the battery), so instead of having 10k miles of 13.8, you have 20 miles of 16 now. You were getting good mileage with it, but that trip had so many miles that it wasn't enough to make much of a difference
