Gryphon 92 vs. 93 Octane Question

Hey all, I just bought a Gryphon Programmer for my 2006 F150 and it is with my knowledge that it comes with canned tunes of tranny only, 87 octane tow and 93 octane performance. or something along those lines. Well i live in the NW near Seattle and if i want to buy from Chevron i can only find 92 Octane fuel around here.

So will i still be able to use the canned Level 3 tune of 93 Octane?

And also when i go to get a custom tune from PHP should i get the 91 octane performance tune or 93 octane performance tune?

Thanks for any help you give. I am pretty new to programming

I was remembering that the level three is a 91 tune. Was on my Edge. I always bumped up the timing for 93. If it is truly a 93 tune, just retard the timing a couple of degrees to run 92.

I don't think you'll have to reduce timing too much. Start with -0.5 points if you're using the 93 octane tune with 92 octane gas and you are experiencing any pinging. You may not have to reduce timing at all. When I travel to higher altitudes, 85 octane gas is the standard and I use it with my 87 custom tunes and no timing change.

Edit: If you get a custom tune from PHP, tell them you are using 92 octane gas, if that's what you use.

I remember this also back in 2009, after selling my 2004 truck and returning the programmer to stock ( 2011 ) I remember the level 3 reading 93 octane performance. I suppose within those couple years there was a software update and modified it to 93. Everywhere I ever got gasoline I have never seen 91, 92, or even 85. Guess 87/89/93 are most common.

Yes, most likely they modified it to 93. Neither have I ever seen 91 in this part of the country, just 87, 89, and 93.

It all depends where you are - around here, there is nothing higher than 91. Other than in high altitude areas you are going to find 87 and 89 everywhere, but full premium is going to be either 91, 92, or 93.
