Question Edge Evo mono, how often should I update it w/Edge?

I have had my Edge Evo (mono) for a few years now and all is fine but I often wonder if I should pull it out and hook it to my PC and update its software via the Edge website? Is this something that should be done every so often?

When I had an Edge on my 2005, I was very satisfied with how it performed. I saw too many guys update, then have issues. Unless there is something not functioning correctly, my humble advice is to not update.

You did not ask, but I will throw this out there. The best thing I ever did with my Edge was to get custom tunes from PHP.

If its working fine now don't update.....there hasn't been any firmware improvements to the mono since the CS+CTS came out.....

As the two gents above said, "Don't update unless you are experiencing problems that an update might cure". If it's working, don't "fix" it.

No issues what so ever just wondering if I am missing any new changes? Or, are our old trucks consider antiques now by Edge? I cant afford to buy a new truck every 4 years due to my kids and grand-kids (lol) and honestly this one is fine. Knock wood not ONE trip to the dealer in 62k miles, since the day it left. Really.

Just wondering, going back to sleep.

If anything, contact PHP to convert it to a Gryphon and get custom tunes. Otherwise, leave it alone.

Bayou, you're not missing anything by not updating (except maybe a few problems when the updating causes the firmware to be corrupted). There have been no updates that have made any significant changes to the way the Evolution functions.

Custom tunes are another matter. I recommend them too, if you're willing to part with $60 per tune.

Thanks Jack but I wonder, I use the canned 2 tune and really what else can PHP do to make it work better? I f you have it and say its worth the $60, I'll go for it but just to convert to PHP...I dunno?

It MAY not be worth it to you. In my case, I liked the "feel" of the vehicle better with custom vs the canned tow tune and, when I was towing, I found I was averaging about 1/2 mile per gallon better with the custom tune vs the canned tow tune. This was back several years ago (about 2008 as I recall) and gas was going for over $4.00 gal in several places. I calculated that on my 2,000+ mile trip I just about paid for the custom tune in gas savings.

This is the kind of thing that seems to be somewhat subjective though. I cannot promise you will like the custom tunes more than the canned ones. I've seen responses on both sides from people who've taken the plunge. But, most of the responses have been positive.
