Reflash to stock ?
Reflash to stock ?
I have a Superchips tuner for my 05 F150 5.4. I realize this is not a popular device on here but it is what I have nonetheless.
I tried to run the program and it says something to the effect that there is a tune previously installed. Return the ecu back to stock and try again.
I am the second owner of the truck and I contacted the first owner and he was not aware of any aftermarket tune.
The truck was purchased new by him with a "Sterling" conversion ...lift kit, tires and rims, etc.already installed on the truck.
I suspect the aftermarket company must have installed some sort of tune on the truck.
I am Leary of voiding that tune and installing the Superchips tune only to find it was tuned properly in the first place.
The dealership wants $100.00 to return it to stock. Am I better of to leave it alone? I appreciate any thoughts you guys may have. Only mods are a SIDO exhaust 6" lift, 35x17tires. I believe the gears to be stock 373.

If the speedometer is correct, then it has been programmed. I would leave it alone if it drives decently and the speedometer is correct. If you go to a different sized tire, then you will need to get it reflashed, for sure.

The speedometer is correct. I'm about to replace the rims and tires but they will be the same size as now.
I appreciate your input. It all seems good as is, but I just needed a nudge in the proper direction. Thanks

When I bought my '07, I had the dealership run a check to make sre it was tuned stock. Once I got it, then I did the Superchips. I just like knowing what it is I have in there and the ability to return it to a known good stock tune, or choosing between the three performance / tow tunes or data logging if needed, or the gages function, or scanning, or maybe adjusting for some other tires .... but that's me.
Just for what it's worth, the "Mileage XS Tune" is useless on these heavy vehicles. I get better mileage on the 87 octane perf tune than even the stock tune or the mileageXS tune and it allows towing up to 6K. Shifting is better, less hunting. There is a heavy tow tune and a perf only tune that both require 93 octane, I don't need to be burning 93 octane.
Your plan sounds OK too, just have it reflashed if it ever becomes necessary. You are right also, in that if you reflash the ECM you'll not just void the current tune, you'll loose all traces of it ....
But then
.... you could use the Superchips which you already have purchased and which can be updated.
