Edge Tuner with E85
Edge Tuner with E85
Hi Guys.
Could I use my Edge on Trans only mode & run on E85?
I occasionally run E85, but right now it is $.55 less per gallon.
The math numbers & logic that I figured before showed
a break even point for me at $.39, so I am into savings.
Just wondering if I can run trans only mode or I have to return to stock.
Thanks.

IF your truck is "flex fuel" rated and you can save money, go for it. But if it is NOT flex fuel rated, I would not put the E85 stuff in it. I know there are people who say it's all right in any engine, just as there are people who say putting acetone in the gas is good, but there are no VALID STUDIES that support this. And, in spite of lobbying by Big Ag, the Government will not even approve E15 for non flex fuel vehicles.
And, one small clarification on Shotgunz's post: E85 has the "potential" for having a higher octane rating. But unless it actually shows this on the pump, I would not change the timing.

It is a flexfuel & I run it on occasion. There is a sotp difference in power
& is a nice change sometimes, seems to idle smoother & I like the smell
of the exhaust. The E85 I run is 105 octane.
I have the PHP custom tunes on my radar at some point. The wait time
is a turn off for me. I have an absolute bone stock truck, I don't think
it should take very long to write a .hex file for that, but I digress.
I guess I'll return to stock to run E85 as long as it remains this low
& it is a nice change from the crappy winter blend that has already started.
Thanks.

An interesting thread, and one that sparked a question in my head.
As some of you know, I run a SCT X3 with custom tunes, the highest of which is a 91 octane performance tune. My 2010 FX4 is obviously a flex fuel vehicle. In my specific case, if I was running the truck on the 91 performance, and happened to fill up with this super octane 105 E85, would I be doing more harm than good, would I be a moron for running E85 in a truck with custom 91 performance tunes, would I see any difference? Or simply, am I missing something on how my truck is able to differentiate between E85, and regular 87 octane fuel it was set up from the factory to burn? Is there something in a "stock tune" that allows the truck to differentiate between E85 and regular gas, that a custom tune lacks? Could you do damage to a truck that (from the factory) can run E85, but alter things with a custom tune?
Feel free to word any answers in a better structure than the mess of questions I posed. I'm sure you get the point.

As Shotgunz suggested, I contacted Edge.
The tech department responded & said that
Level 1 is truly trans only tuning & the engine PCM
remains untouched; run E85 if its a flexfuel.
