I have an 04 FX4 and i just had a 06 5.4 engine put in it. Im looking for a jetchip to put in it, not programmer. Should i be searching based on 2004 f150 or 2006 f150??

As mentioned, a good programmer is a much better option, let us know if we can answer any questions for you.

Thanks

You will need a programmer. 04 and beyond do not have the chip socket.

Im sorry if i confused anyone by saying "chip", i ment performance module. Here is the two links to the modules. One is for an 06 and one is for an 04 f150.

For the 04

http://www.amazon.com/JET-80428-Auto...ar=1&carId=001

For the 06

http://www.amazon.com/80628-Auto-Man...ar=1&carId=002

Like is said im not sure which one to get because i have an 06 engine in the 04 truck.

Another thing, why get a programer? ive read good reviews on them and wouldnt expect anything bad from them, but im not going to be doing any hauling, towing, mostly highway driving and a little mudding. I mean how much more could a programmer help me over just getting the performance module?

it's a POS, and if you can't figure it out for yourself, then feel free to read all the issues people have had with 'em...

I had one of those on my last jeep. Biggest waste of money. For that price you can find a good unlocked programmer that will be much better in performance.

I second what everyone else is saying, chips suck! I have first hand knowledge of a JET Chip frying my ECU!!! Granted it was not on a Ford or a truck, but I wouldn't recommend one to my worst enemy.
Luckily my dealership replaced it under warranty because I was a frequent customer. You might not be so lucky and a new ECU isn't cheap!!!

With regards to “Chips” and “Tuners”, years ago it was the best that most could do to enhance the ignition timing, fuel curve, transmission shift points, etc. It was (and still is) very important that a person verifies that the “Tuner” is ASE certified in both ECM and Transmission programming and IMHO be have current certification by the OEM whose vehicle you want to modify. There are plenty of persons who advertise their programs to be the best and even offer custom tunes, but in all reality, very few actually have credentials in these areas- but that’s not to say that some of these “geniuses” haven’t really caused damage to a few vehicles- just jump over to flatratetech.com and read just some of the comments from the MSE techs!. Perhaps what is equally important is the parameters that can be adjusted are set by the OEM vehicle software…so there is really no “magic” in what they are doing anyway.

IMHO, if you live near any major city there are excellent tuning specialists with dynos who for the same price (if not less) will tune your vehicle taking into consideration your specific needs including environmental conditions, for your specific vehicle. IMHO, the best bang for the buck!
