Flashpac 1865 online updating

I bought a flashpac but couldn't update it. Got an error so I just used it as is from the box. Figured it should already have the latest program for a 06' 5.4L. For those with the 1865 are you all updating every couple of months? Not worrying about it? Also I read that you can also update it with CAI pgm? Would i need to do that for the Gotts mod? Would it be worth or is it fine as is?

Thanks for any input.

Rob

Gotts mod doesn't require anything special, because the MAF is not moved or touched.

I haven't had any problems updating my 1865. When I first got it Feb 2010 it was updated that day at Troyers, then when loaded the 87 Tune, it asked if I'ld be towing over 4,000 pounds. Then .... in 2010, for my '07 FX4 5.4, the 1865 allowed only up to 4,000 pounds with the 87 tune. Later on in 2010, after a couple updates, suddenly one day when I was applying any updates to the truck by retuning it, I saw that thresh hold was upped to 6,000 pounds. My guess is they fine tuined the advance curve for ignition or maybe fuel curve and it let it tow a few more pounds safely with 87 octane.

It'll tow max loads on the premium fuel heavy tow tune.

Point is, I would never have gotten the revision if not checking by updating once in a while. The CAI tune mods only pop up as available if the tune selected requires it I'm told. On 87 it has not offered them yet, might do so on the 93 tunes ..... but I don't use them. Like others said, with just Gott's Mod you will NOT need them.

There is a new updater as well, the old updater is no good now. Changed back in Spring 2011 I think. If you are using the older updater there is a new one on the SuperChips website.http://www.superchips.com/Store/Flashpaq.aspx

Might also look here for answers and maybe send them a querry of your own, they usually answer pretty quick and I've seen them help many out. https://www.superchips.com/forum/

I tried to login again last night but it didn't go through. I'll try again. Also do I need to unlock the programmer before updating?

Thanks,
Rob

I didn't need to .... but to apply any updates to the vehicle, you need to "re-tune" it after updating.

Most of the updating is to add newer vehicles though, I was just pointing out one area where a change was made that benefitted my older one.

Also .... the site I posted a link to above is just a forum. There is info there for the updater, but the updater itself is at the SuperChips Webpage itself >>> http://www.superchips.com/Customers/...eSoftware.aspx

Rob,

The issue could be as simple as a firewall causing an interruption when the system is trying to communicate with the product.

Give customer service a call at 888-227-2447. A rep will walk you though a few options.
