Help with deciding on the right tuner

Okay so I'm pretty lost on looking for a tuner and I'm not sure what would best suit my needs. Truck is an expedition 5.4l 2001. What I'm looking for is a proper programmer for speed calibration due to the bigger tires, better fuel economy, and the ability to switch to a performance tune. Major names I know of are superchips, diablo sport, jet, etc. Can I go wrong with deciding on any of these? Or is their one over the other that would be best for me. Thanks

x2 on the advice given to you above that sticky will answer your questions as long as you avoid the canned tuning devices

what gears are you running with those tires?

Yeah I read that sticky but just wanted to clarify because it recommends all of them. Stock gearing right now, 4.88s sometime in the future.

Does your computer have a serial port? That's a pretty old device.

The thing under the dash is the OBD port. Yes, it's where you read the codes.

A serial port is something on your PC if it's an older model. You don't find serial ports on newer PCs, and if the device requires a serial port, you would probably have to buy a USB to serial adapter, at some place like Radio Shack.

Found that out the hard way.....most of those drivers suck and the usb side is underpowered......ended up buying a used laptop that had a serial port on it

Hmm I'm trying to figure out what to do now. My computer is brand new so I'm assuming I don't have that hookup. Seems like a good deal though and I really don't want to pass it up.

Honestly, I'd pass on it. I think you're looking at trouble.
