modified mass air flow sensor

a buddy of mine sugested to me that i could modify the mass by cutting the casing off around the sensor to fool the comp and advance the timing and fuel consumption to make power and improve throttle responce what do y'all think 04 150 fx4

I wouldn't do it. The maf system is important to these trucks and messing around with a sensor by cutting the casing off could damage you don't want to deal with. if you want more power and throttle response then think about getting custom tunes done.

you're truck is already setup lean from the factory, so i wouldnt do anything that would risk running lean.

If you're trying to richen the mixture and get it to dump more gas, you'd want the same sensor in a smaller diameter tube that would make the computer think you're moving more air past the sensor then you are.

But like everyone said, I wouldn't do it.

Do it right - get a programmer and custom tunes. Playing with the MAF is ghetto, just like those $69.95 chips that claim miracles. All they are is a 25 cent resistor pack that fools the MAF and can actually cause engine damage.

Talking Fubar

Once you FUBAR your current MAF sensor you'll need to purchase a new one. Go to Rockauto.com, they run between $100 and $250. By the way, cutting the housing off the MAF will cause the engine to run leaner, with less power and less response until the super lean condition fries your motor. After that you can order a new long block from AccurateEngines.com. $1900. OR you can be smart and get a Programmer.

Another good bit of advice from Scooterdog. I kind of held off saying anything before this because I thought the proposal was maybe ... a joke?

Believe me, when I did the Gotts Mod, I had to think long and hard about what was actually being modified and what the possible effects were before I did it. And, I made certain I would be able to restore the intake to its stock condition if I detected the slightest problem. So far, it's been all good, but I still can't understand why Ford reduced the inlet to half the size it could have been (unless it was to limit power to protect their warranty from those who always floor the accelerator from every standing stop).

He came back the next day and looked, but did not post. Has not been back since then. Guess we didn't say what he wanted to hear.
