I think I am on the right track now. Any concerns?
Who is 'them'? Meaning who is writing the custom tunes? In order for this to work, 'they' must have the correct MAF transfer function.

If you like the Edge platform, check out the CS/CTS from Power Hungry Performance (custom tunes).

quakrstackr, I thought 3V 5.4 ran lean from the get go. What do you think was causing yours to run rich from the factory before the programmer. Its just that Ive read numerous threads that preach how lean the 3V 5.4 runs because it is factory set to do that and want to know why you think yours differed.

I have no idea, really. I know that it spent a month and a half in the shop before I had owned it 7 months. It got reflashed in January of 2006 for transmission issues. It has also been in for hydrolock, 2 more bad injectors and cat replacement since then.

I have a Magnaflow cat back and could drive about 20 miles and turn the SS tip black for 1/2" with soot.

The truck also got worse gas mileage after the dealer reflash.

It still soots some but nowhere near what it did.

Thats wierd from what I heard but I guess it is what it is. I dont ever remember mine sooting up before the CAI though. Of course that was almost 6 yrs ago. I am going with the Gryphon Programmer so that should take care of any lean issues I may or may not be having.. I dont get any detonation though and thought that was the tell tale sign of running lean. I just hope that my engine is alright after over 40,000 miles running with a CAI and not having the right tune for the A/F mix.

It's difficult for anyone to say without a doubt you have a lean condition, or that you have damaged your motor. Considering you live in a high humidity environment, it has helped to prevent any detonation.

Those in a hot, dry environment, higher altitude, etc, have more to worry about.

And it does make you wonder how the companies that manufacture these horrible CAI's, (that will surely destroy an engine), could stay in business without multi million dollar lawsuits for all of the destroyed engines out there.

Just one of those things that make you go MMMMM.
