Got my new Gryphon...
Got my new Gryphon...Update 3/28...
.....last week, put in the canned 87 tow tune yesterday. Noticeable difference, better throttle response, firmer shifts, just feels better.
Only 80 miles driven so no fuel mileage numbers yet.
I'm assuming my custom tunes are a couple weeks away yet, keep ya' posted.
I do have a flat spot around 1800rpm that is worse now. 98,000 miles, getting new plugs next week. Anything else? Clean TB?

Thanks, both ya's. Plugs, filter(s), TB, MAF.
200 miles now, torque convertor seems to lock more quickly, which is cool. But, I've noticed this: slight downgrade, low speed, light throttle, slow traffic type situation, I have a major clunk that was not there before.
Torque convertor staying locked too long? Anything I should concern myself with, or wait for my custom tunes?
I have an 87 perf and 87 towing coming; right now I'm on the canned 87 towing.
thanks again,
Randy

Normally, as you come off the throttle, Ford designed the torque converter to unlock (to save gas). You can easily monitor this on the Gryphon - in the monochrome Gryphon the PID is "Comm Gear" (Commanded Gear). You'll see a number for the current gear and a lock symbol if the TC is locked. I think it may just be called "Gear" on the CS/CTS platform?
I often get a "clunk" when I've had to slow down for traffic and then step hard on the gas to change lanes, but that's a low speed downshift.

Randy, I'm having trouble understanding the "clunk". Can you tell where it comes from? Is it a single "clunk"? Does it happen as you come off the gas? Or, could it be a downshift as you start to feed in gas?

The first time was a surprise; 20 min later I made it do it in similar situation, jumped off light throttle, then eased back in- clunk-clunk.
I didn't mount the Gryphon. I guess I could mount it, watch the PID you called out. Any other ideas, I'd like to hear 'em.
thanks Jack!
Randy
PM sent, Randy. I WOULD mount the Gryphon to check on the status of the converter (and the gears).

RXDG issue?
RXDG?
Now I can make it do it almost at will. Feels exactly like a std trans truck, in high gear, going fairly slow, on throttle-little clunk, off throttle-little clunk. The harder on and off, the louder the clunk.
Feels to me like the TC is staying locked, where it would have unlocked on the stock programming.
thanks for the help!!

It's a PCM catch code - a problem one - here's a list of revised ones for yer MY:

That was more directed at JackandJanet.....
IDK what your hex calibration code is but in the past some don't play well with canned tunes....
Every truck is different....some can have an issue and others don't and they can have the same hex code....
I don't mean to worry you but I think your next step is to contact PHP for guidance.....you may have to adjust a custom option setting with the torque converter tip in/tip out, but let's have Bill decide.....
The RXDG refers to a hex (calibration) code, Randy. 88Racing is attuned to some known problems with certain stock calibrations and one starting with the letters "RXDG" is one of these. You can read yours using [Diagnostics]->[Version Info] on the monochrome Gryphon. It will look something like RXCM5E4.HEX on that device. (That is MY hex code, by the way.)
On the CS/CTS platforms, it's called a "calibration code" (no "hex") and you get it through the [Help]->[Vehicle Info] menu. There, mine simply looks like "RXCM5E4".
Anyway, if your hex code starts with RXDG, the PCM's coding may not be playing nice with the canned tuning.

Naturally......
...........my hex code is RXDG6AA
Just got my Gryphon last week, so I'm assuming my custom tunes are still several weeks away.
What now? Go to the PHP site and post for guidance? Monitor gear selection and TC lock while driving to confirm, as JnJ suggested? Go back to stock until PHP has my customs ready?
Thanks to all,
Randy

What I'd do...
Process of elimination.....
Try level 1 tranny only
If you can afford it try level 3 93 performance
But above everything else contact PHP ASAP....
Preferably by phone and talk to Bill directly...keep on trying till you talk to him.....
Also fill out a support ticket and be detailed and specific.
Comprende?
Very good 88!
You're much more "attuned" to that hex problem than I am. (I'd kind of forgotten all about it.) :o
As 88 said, Blackfin - DO try to talk to Bill. They have an online "chat" that many people have used with success if you can't get him by phone. (Did I already tell you that?)
