Edge CTS / Factory flash
Edge CTS / Factory flash
I'll be purchasing a Edge for my 2010 FX4 Just in time for Christmas but, In the meantime I can't decide if I should put up with the lousy shifting characteristics of this transmission or have the factory TSB reflash done. Are the tuners built to enhance the factory calibration of the transmissions or do they totally replace the tranny cal?
If it's under warranty I'd want to get the TSB reflash done first. The programmer is going to save your factory calibrations before it rewrites your computer. So if you've got the up-to-date files on your truck, that's the settings that will be saved for future use. Just makes sense to get it done now and not have to de-program your truck to have it done later. IMHO.

Agreed! If Ford has released a PCM flash to correct deficiencies, you want to have that in place. If you don't, and get custom tunes written, they will become useless if the reflash happens afterward. This would force you to pay to have the tunes rewritten for the new calibration.
And yes, to your original question. The tunes are based on the factory calibration that is installed by Ford in your PCM. There are many parts of that calibration that are not effected by the tunes at all.
