The mileage gains on a 5.4 Super Duty are going to be minimal due to its weight. The 6.8L V10 does much better... the 5.4 is simply not enough engine for that truck. There's only so much that can be done via timing and fuel on 87 octane to gain some mileage. The bulk of mileage increases will be due to transmission torque converter lockup strategy changes, and then only if the programmer makes those changes with mileage in mind, and if your driving habits are suited for it. For instance, if you do mainly highway speeds you won't see much gain because even the stock tune is going keep the converter locked at those speeds. If you do a lot of 35-50 mph intermittent driving then you may see a gain from a more aggressive lockup schedule, but don't expect miracles.
