Best Chip for fuel efficiency
im no professional by no means and im not trying to prove anybody on here wrong or nothin like that but i will tell you from my personal experience that of all the programmers i had evperience with the hypertech has made the best improvement on fuel economy and its says it only helps like 1-2 mpg but if you dont drive like a fool it seems to make a pretty substancial difference.
No one is sayin' programmers don't increase MPG. What we ARE sayin' is that it's a crap shoot. Out of 100, 33 will say it helped a little, 34 will say it didn't, and 33 will say it hurt (more than likely they can't keep their foot out of it).
And even if you do see an increase, can it be attributed (exclusively) to the programmer and tunes? Or did your driving habits change? Or did you also change the air filter? Or did the weather change? Or are you simply keeping better records?

yea i guess i can see what your saying but it just seemed to me with the way i drive that it averaged better than without a programmer. but i understand that theres a lot of things that come into play and i understand were everyones coming from. and from what everyones saying it could help or hurt depending on driveing style mainly. but either way theres really no down side, because if if you drive like a fool the trucks going to have more power and be more fun to drive. and if you dont drive like a fool itll be better on gas and plus youll always still have the extra power
a freind of mine has a 97 1500 z71 with the 5.7 vortech and he programmed it with the hypertech max energy programmer and he went from going a little more than 80 miles off 7 and a half gallons of gas to going about 120 miles. as long as he kept his foot out of it it helped on gas mileage alot. i kno thats its kinna out of left feild but i see everybody on here sayin programmers dont help gas mileage and i kno they do.
I have heard about people getting up to 4mpg on other vehicles with programmers,i think my truck is too big to gain that great of an increase in fuel economy though.
The largest gain that I have read about (reliable data, likely was due to the programmer and not other changes) was 2 MPG.
I'm averaging a little over 17.3 MPG (spreadsheet is in my albums). I will be shocked if I get more than .5 MPG increase when I finally get a tuner (waiting on the Gryphon CTS and custom tunes).

Out of the many on this site that have gotten tunes, I don't recall anyone ever claining that kind of increase in mpg. There have been a couple maybe that were a little difficult to accect due to there inability to understand basic mathematics. I know in my case, if there was an increase, it was only slight and I keep a spreadsheet on every purchase of fuel, so I would have seen it. I was just tickled to death that I got all that much performance, and considering how I drive, I did not LOSE any mpg. One thing I did notice was that when I had the Edge canned tunes, I got about 11% better mileage from level 3 on 93 than I did from level 2 on 87. So, it paid for the difference in fuel cost. When I went to the custom tunes, I get such good performance out of my 87 Perf tune, that now I save the difference in cost and still have the performance I want.

those numbers arent exact. of course it would go more than 80 miles before its not like i ran it completely outta gas and it always wouldnt go 120 but it would go around those numbers. and 50% or not it was only like 5 mpg it increased. go to the hypertech website and look at the reviews of the econ programmer the reviews claim a 2-6 mpg increase

yea but still all im saying is about a 5 mpg increase, not none of that ebay crap saying 100mpg. and blakefordman was asking if a programmer would make his truck get better than 9 mpg. and im not saying it would for sure bc i dont kno for sure. im just sayin from my experience that it has helped my trucks. and most people have custom tunes. i just used the hypertech right out of the box. and there was no significant difference in power, honestly i couldnt really tell any difference but it did make it a little better on gas
Hey only you know rather or not if you fuel mielage increased, but to try and convince us it was 5 mpg's is just not happening. If it did so in fact do just that I promise it would cost far more than you paid for it. On a side note you are the first person that I have heard of that said their tuner had no affect on the power but did so increase the fuel mileage. Maybe hypertech's arent all that. My edge made a difference to the point I hate driving my truck without it being loaded.
