The excitement was short lived. I put in the cd, read the instructions. The first thing it says to do is plug the tuner in a computer and update the firmware. I follow these instructions, download the updated firmware to my pc and update my tuner. Screen comes up and says "invalid firmware, load the correct firmware or contact customer support at SCTflash.com"

Ummm, that's kinda what I did. It asked for my serial number before showing the firmware to download, how can it be the wrong firmware?

It does that every time I plug it into my pc now.

anyone have an idea or do I have to wait and contact SCT tomorrow?

I'd contact Justin first. VMP is great at customer service.

I'm gettin in on this thread; I just ordered an X3 as well and I want to see what the solution will be in case I run into the same problems.

Good luck!

I'm pretty embarrassed to say that I downloaded the firmware for the 3015 model when I have the 3000 model. Justin from VMP returned my email within an hour and told me to make sure I had the correct model firmware. That was awesome.

So I downloaded the correct firmware and am out sitting in the truck uploading my tune right now!

sorry, I've been having fun!

Once I downloaded the correct firmware it all went smooth (dumbass). It took around 40-45 minutes to load the complete tune, then I had to wait until after work to get a test drive, which unfortunately was bumper to bumper traffic for 45 minutes.

So after a day of ripping around, here's my thoughts on the 2010

stock: nice power (more than the 2007 I previously had) and the 6 speed tranny has a nice low 1st gear to pull off the line. Unfortunately unless you're on the gas it seems to short shift and stay in a higher gear for too long when you accelerate, causing it to lug and feel sluggish.

add 35" tires and the sluggishness was amplified greatly. Unless you were hard on the gas it felt like a dog.

enter VMP tuned SCTX3. Total of 10 days from date of order to the day it shipped. That was pretty impressive. The truck is totally changed. I wouldn't say it has a huge boost in power but the throttle response and shifting is greatly improved. When I say greatly I'm mean holy crap it's a lot better. As soon as you step on the gas it downshifted to the correct gear and puts the power down. Driveability is greatly improved and it's 100x more fun to drive. It's very similar to the feeling that the PHP Gryphon gave my 2007, although it feels like it pulls harder. The 6 speed tranny shifts quick and smooth and never feels like it's lugging or sluggish.

Money well spent in my opinion.

Thanks for the post dave m, I just ordered and X3 as well. I had originally ordered another programmer with only canned tunes, and noticed very little difference. Can't wait to get everything installed.

my thoughts exactly with my vmp tune.

i'm getting ready to put new tires and wheels on my truck, i did notice on my xcal3 that there are different rev/mile numbers to choose from.

did the reflash for the tire size change also take 45 minutes to do?
