Does VMP's SCT XCAL3 really fully support the '09?

One only needs to re-read all of the relevant posts from Smokewagun to discover there are tangible benefits.

It's not just about power - and yes, there is some to be had - and not peak numbers. I'm talking area-under-the-curve improvements, Enhanced driveability, overall drivetrain refinement.

EVERY 2009+ I've driven stock - and I've tried ALL the variants - had unacceptable shifting, retarded & low shift points, and were unresponsive (a.k.a. known as a 'sled', lol). Compared to my tuned truck it was night & day. Absolutely no comparison.

Until you've actually driven one with high-quality custom tuning, you just can't be judging it. Sorry.

$400 against a $30K+ truck? For refinement, ability to make adjustments, enhanced towing, account for any mods, ability to be octane-flexible, reduced tranny slip, optimization/correction of a number of inherently conservative items in the stock calibration, BSFC improvements using premium fuels, etc, etc...... yes, it's worth it.

Don't fixate on dyno numbers - they are almost meaningless for comparison purposes unless the testing is extremely well-controlled. Otherwise they are just numbers and traces on paper, and do NOT properly convey the actual results in-vehicle.

Any good tuner will tell you this. Don't believe me? Don't care. Call Troyer - perhaps you'll believe him.

If not - yer loss. If you can't or won't justify the cost of one or two long-distance phone calls to address the ignorance - you are posting in the wrong forum. Instead you'll keep pissing & moaning. Incessently. To no end. While others will have moved on and enjoy theri custom tuning.

Good grief.

Yer truck. Yer money.

so if the main gains seem to be throttle response and tranny help I am wondering if there is a point to a custom tune on 09+. Maybe later but right now I have no intentions of major mods so I may just get a "canned" tune for throttle response and the tranny(not that there are many options available right now anyway). I don't believe Powerblock as they will push whatever product will pay them but I have had a lot better results with Bully Dog (on a diesel) than I had with Edge. Thanks OP for posting this thread gives alot more to think about.

I remember an old rule of thumb, you need at least a 10% increase in power to even notice it in the seat of your pants. So a 25hp gain "might" be noticeable. What is very noticeable is throttle response and shifting. That's the ability to get the most out of the available power. That's what makes a programmer/tuner worth every penny.

Winter is only 2 weeks away in Canuckistan. He gets cranky when summer ends.

Oh, and he hasn't gotten any since he gave up his Viagra for the RS Performance chip. Or was it the throttle body spacer?

Apologies, sir. for both this post and the one in the exhaust section. Not anger - just passion.

I recognize something like this needs to to be taken largely on faith. And it's unfortunate there is no 'try-before-you-buy' unless you know someone with at least a compatible canned device you could load and sample to give you an idea.

On the other hand, the tuning folks we support on here are genuine masters at their trade - and would not steer you wrong.

An in-depth consult with one or more of them may help, I know it did for me.

Thanks & cheers.

i like the fact of having my custom tunes. are they any better than someone else i dont know i had my tuner left over from my old truck so it only cost me the extra money for the tune. i dont have any idea what kind of numbers i got with the tune, but the truck runs and fells alot better. as before i was told on the front end that these trucks dont do as well as the 04-08 power wise because more power is there from the start. the truck responds alot better and the trans shifts alot better as well, when i first got the truck the shifting was horrible but now alot better. hope this info helps alittle more. if you ask me would i spend the money and buy the programmer and the tunes then yes i would if only to fix the trans shifting problems that everyone seems to have

that was weird, the url was the address to my album for sure. I'm not sure why it would have directly everyone to their own albums. Anyways, with the new "garage" feature it's not needed any more.

In related news, I got a notice from UPS that my VMP SCT tuner will be delivered tomorrow. I can't wait to experience the awesomeness (that's a Canadian/Tim Hortons saying y'all)
