Do I need a really need a Programmer?
Planned mods
Canned tunes are a one size fits all approach. You will be better off then stock with canned tunes. But If you have or plan on any mods like an air intake or exhaust the custome tune is the way to go. Custom tunes are just that, written specifically for your truck. I had the Edge and loved it, then I uprgraded to a Gryphon. It was a night and day difference. My reccomendation is that if you are thinking about an Edge Evo you sound spend a little more money and get the Gryphon.
Where do I get cutom tunes? Is that something I do myself, or something I have to buy?
Where's the best place to buy one then? Just google it? or is there one place that's better/cheaper than another?
Yeah, I plan to add a CAI soon, followed by exhaust. That'll probably be it for now, but ask me in a year and I'm sure I'll have all sorts of other stuff planned.

You don't create custom tunes. You send your Evolution to PHP and Bill Cohron (an experienced tuner) writes the tunes.
Re-read the custom vs. canned tunes explanation. Jack explains the differences using very clear, concise, and down-to-earth terms.
If you DO decide on custom tunes (which are the better option), buy your Gryphon with custom tunes directly from PHP. http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...php/Index.html
I also recommend you join PHP's forums and read the numerous threads. http://forum.gopowerhungry.com/

First off read this https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...unes-read.html it will help you out. I went with Power Hungry Performance for my custom tunes and highly recommend them.
Apparently one of us needs to!
[QUOTE=Bluejay;4223260]The Edge is good, but the custom tuned Gryphon is better. I ran the Edge for 31,000 miles and have had the Gryphon custom tune for about 45,000 miles. The custom tune shifts better and the downshifting is far better. Plus, I have an 87 Performance tune that gives me better performance that I got with the Edge on 93. So, it paid for itself in about 6 months.
You don't do the custom tunes, you have them written for your truck by a programmer. It's kind of like good, better, best. There are some tuners that are good, like Hpertech, some better, such as Edge, and the best, that would be the custom tunes.
If you have not read the sticky at the top of the forum, all about tuners, it should help you to do so.[/QUOTE

Not to be rude but :P..... how do you not notice the advertisements on all sides of the forums heheh. There are two of the randomized ads on this page alone. One for a Brenspeed custom tune with an SCT Xcal3 for 379 Shipped and a SCT's own website...
I've heard great things about Justin at VPM, never used them and haven't even used my tuner in the past year that i've owned it because I'm still waiting on Tunes from Troyer performance. So if time is of the essences for you, i'd probably go with VPM and an Xcal. From my understanding the biggest difference for the Xcal and the Gryphon is that the Gryphon has digital gauges and readouts. Other than that they both do the same job, just depends on who will do that job with that particular software.

....... what is this I.E people speak of
However I don't use ad-block because I'm actually at work on this one, plus some of the other forums I'm a regular on either have it against their rules or strongly request that we not block them... they receive revenue from the ads and its what keeps some of the sites afloat. I don't have a problem with them unless they are ads like the ones where you mouse over a keyword in a post..... now that **** is annoying.
