Question running lean pt.2

well im back again (part 1 https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...ning-lean.html) and i did a few of the suggestions. i cleaned the maf and iac, both were pretty clean so i felt the throttle body was ok. i check for vac leaks and replaced a cracked tub that i had taped a while ago. so after doing all this i unplugged the battery(10min) to reset the pcm. then i set the edge to level 2 and took it for a spin. same result, pinging/rattling in lower rpms and now noticeing in the higher rpms. it pretty much does it all the time now on level 2 when its under stress. so what should i do? im also going to key west in two weeks and will be towing a 19ft boat so id like to get this resolved. also can i tow on level 1 or just return to stock(level 0)?

thanks and sorry for all that reading

You can tow on level one I would think. All it does is improve the shifting. I would fill up with premium and see what happens on Level 2. Another possibity is going minus 2 on the timing and see if it still pings.

well, i tried the -2 timing and that did seem to help. it doesn't rattle as much and was a lot less noticeable. so should i push it even farther to -2.5 or -3?
also forgot to add that when i first got the edge i ran it on level 2 all the time, then this rattle started to develop slowly over time.

thanks

With that in mind, you must have something else going on with the engine. Retarding the timing just masks the problem and robs you of power. The tune does not evolve or change, so it is something within your engine. The pinging is a very bad symtom of a timing issue.

so i called edge today and explained my problem to them. they set my edge back the the original tune before i updated it(like when it used to work right). after trying it out and its still not working right. this is becoming a real PITA. when i called them they offered no real solutions and basically said i should just run 89oct and thats not a good solution in my book.

anyone else
