can dealer find out you had your truck chiped?
Quick story
Since I just installed an Edge Evolution in my truck last Wednesday (I think) I also had to go to the dealership last Friday to see about a piece of plastic molding an installer broke awhile back.
I thought I would take advantage of the visit by asking the team lead I was assigned to when I purchased the truck about all the rumors I had heard about installing mod chips. I didn't say I had one but was looking into getting one. Well, that was a huge mistake on my part! I have never been treated so damn rude in my life! That guy exploded on me! He said that "they" are required by federal law to report any change to Ford and would cancel the warranty immediately. And, that "they" could tell if I do/did install a mod chip of any sort. I haven't found and federal law online yet and yesterday I talked to several truck specialties shops and was told that was BS about "them" being able to detect a mod chip install. I still question it but let me tell you this, I was able to test the Edge Evolution out yesterday driving to the beach and back and my truck performed the best it ever has in ther year and a half I have owned it. I averaged 18.2mpg. I did take another senior members advice and changed to a drop-in air filter too. I don't give a damn what is said, I'm a believer in the Edge Evolution bettering my truck's performance in more ways than one...

If you flash the truck before going in there will be a p1000 code. They cant prove you had a tuner/programmer but this is an indicator that the battery has been disconnected or the pcm flashed.
If they really wanted to apply the forensics ... YES.

I'm sure they could find out one way or another. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects people that have aftermarket parts. It basically states that a dealer cannot void a warranty because of aftermarket parts and that the dealer would have to prove that the parts caused the problem. So if you are worried about your warranty being voided, putting your truck back to stock will be fine and you should have nothing to worry about.
MGD,
By forensics, do you mean that the PCM stores how many times it's been flashed and the dealer service manager could use Oasis (or is it something else) to determine how many times the PCM was flashed at a Ford service center?

If given sufficient cause (as in a major warranty denial dispute) I believe the resources exist ( either within Oasis itself, or by other means) to detect any such activity. The PCM also has 'blackbox' functionality - and certainly for the newer models it would appear to be part of the design. It's been the case for diesels for some time - as if the stretched head bolts from overboost wasn't evidence enough.

All it takes is some write-once (fusible or other means) registers - very simple to implement. These exist on 50-cent smartcards - they also exist on the PCM.
I occasionally do fornesics for computer security issues - the technology is almost ubiquitous.
Cheers & have a great day!

WOW. You are one big pile of random information. And I mean that in a nice way.
Thanks!
Wellsir - to some folks on here who cannot tolerate my twisted methods of delivery, I'm considered a big pile of something.

"Chipped" implies that you have changed the chip in the PCM. "Tuners" don't require a replacement chip - they reprogram the existing unit. There is a difference. Opening the PCM to replace the chip will have warranty implications.

Man, you are awesome to have on this forum. Not only is your wealth of knowledge handy but your over cheerful hello greetings make me laugh every time
. Hearing what you do for work now I can understand the consistent version upgrades of the MGDfan

Thanks - life is stressful enough - this is my way of helping blow some of it off ... costs nothing to be cheerful.

On the version upgrades - don't tell anyone, but I think I got me a dang virus. Did you know that antibiotics can make y'all constipated
?Cheers to you, buddy!
