Thoughts on buying a used edge

I just want to here your thoughts on buying a used edge tuner. I found a guy selling one locally and its a deal I can't pass up, unless it's a bad idea to buy a used one.

Good evening Mr. Atlanta! And Welcome!

That is a very good idea if the price is right, and is in good condition. with the cable.

Please ensure that the unit has been returned to stock or do not buy it.

Also, if/when you receive it you should connect to the web and load any updates that may be pending. Details for doing that are on Edge's website.

It will wake yer truck up nicely, and further down the line, if you wish, you can have the unit converted into a Gryphon so it will accept custom tuning.

PHP provides the conversion & tuning services.

Good luck!

Cheers!

Main thing is making sure that it has the cord, and the PO, has returned their vehickle to stock, before removing. If this has not been done, the unit will not be usable, with out being unlocked by Edge ( about 100, I think).

Hi again.

Here's a linky to the documentation & other stuff: ==> http://www.edgeproducts.com/product....ion+Programmer

And, here is a linky to the software you will need to do updates: ==> http://www.edgeproducts.com/product_updates.php

Also - try to have a look in the Classifieds on this site as a reference on the selling price. Might help in the bargaining, lol.

Good luck, sir!

Cheers

well I think I got a pretty good deal most of the ones on here sold for 275 shipped. Also thanks for the links I looked on the web site and found out how easy it is to hook up, alot easier than the one I put on my 04 powerstroke.

I bought a used one for around the same price. I took it out to my truck and hooked it all up to make sure it worked before ever giving up the cash.

Dang, I know my hypertech supposedly marries itself to the truck, so it can't be used on another truck... I should've gone with an edge...

Good morning to you Wingman!

Sir, I believe your Hypertech, like almost all programmers, will 'unmarry' when you return the unit to stock (which loads the stored factory tuning back into yer PCM). You could then either sell it, or use it on another (supported) truck. Just fyi, okay?

The key here is: only one vehicle at any given time.

Good luck & have a great weekend!

Cheers!

I bought mine locally for $225 and the guy hooked it up for me so that I would know it was working before he took the money - it would be nice if everyone I bought stuff from was so concerned about not selling me a POS! Enjoy the edge!

well guys just an update on the edge. I went to the bank today took out the money for the chip went next door to meet the guy selling it. When he went to hook it up it did not work it said it needed an update. Also he can't find the cable to hook it up to the computer, so I told him to hang on to it til he found that cable. This also has me wondering if he did not return it to stock before he took it out of his truck, since it would not install in mine.

What year is his truck. some older units don't work on the 08. I bought a used one for a 04-06 and had to pay $150 to get it upgrade to work on my 08. That would bring your good deal up to $380.
