If it was VIN-Locked the display would have indicated same.

If it didn't , likely all it needs is an update to support yer truck's PCM strategy.

Need that cable!

Know anyone else with an Edge willing to lend the cable? If so and the update works, tell the seller to drop the price & you order another cable with the difference.

He's gunna see if he can find it he just moved so everything is scattered around right now. I'm gunna go to edges' web site right now to see how much one costs.

 

It sounds like teh Hex code on your truck is not supported by the unit. Updating with Fusion may fix this. If teh owner wants to sell, he should find teh cord and uodate via Fusion. Then try again.
My brand new Edge, direct from Edge, wouldn't talk to my Expd, until I loaded the Fusion software on my Lap top, then connected the Edge, it update and everything worked great.

 

yeah hopefully he can find it, if he dose I will have him update it before I buy it to make sure that it will work when we try to install it.

Ya know?
One from usb to mini usb. That would work.
Check the connection before hitching it up to the computer.
If you have a sandisk card reader that cable would work also.

I didn't even think of that, my blackberry cable should work then.

 

I bought mine used and it loaded all the tunes but couldnt customize them. I talked to edge and they told me how to update it and it worked great! I used a camera cable to update it!

 

thanks guys I will call him tommorow to have him try to update it with a coard that fits even if its not the one from edge.

 

Yep, your USB to Blackberry or to your digital camera will work fine. It sounds like you just need to update it via Fusion. I also bought mine used years back for around $225. Then one day while at the dealer, they reflashed my PCM which rendered the old Edge obsolete. I called Edge and they swapped it for a brand new one, no questions asked!! Sounds like you're getting a pretty good deal, good luck!

 

Yes, dont forget to set back to stock before any work is done at a dealership. IMO - I just take the unit out of the dash mount just for peace of mind that I will still have a unit when I come back. Lost a camera once while a vehicle was in service, lesson learned. I have not sent mine in for custom tunes yet, but it is on the to do list. I am not sure you mentioned it, but did he have the cd and manual? I mark up the blank pages with service history and notes (thrown codes, normal read outs, etc.) I believe it really is a good investment - if for nothing else, for the nice digital guages and ability to read / delete codes. just make sure when you park..dont let direct sunlight hit the edge monitor or else it will burn the screen and you will have a black mark on the screen..

Ok so I ended up getting the edge today and he hooked it up and it worked. I traded the tires I took off my truck for the tuner so now I am thinking about sending it in to get upgraded.

 

Do you have or are you planning to have any intake/exhaust mods done? If so you may want to do those before you get a custom tune made. Otherwise you will have to get new ones made after your mods anyway. Just a thought.

 

how much dose it cost for the upgrade if you don't mind me asking
