SCT X3 shift points

what are you guys putting your shift points at for your custom tunes? i got mine
1-2 = +1
2-3 = +2
3-4 = +2

i read somewhere these motors dont make much power up high and to keep the points low? just seein where everyone else runs theirs.

Custom tunes? Leave them alone, then. The tuner most likely already set them at optimal & SAFE values.

Are you sure this isn't shift firmness? As on my X2, shift points are displayed in rpm values.

For reference, most (stock truck, 4rR70 /4R75) are set at:

1>2 5200-5400 (depending) on the tuner's preference & type of tune, etc
2>3 5200
3>4 4800

Everyone has their subjective preferences though - some like them a little lower, but you should never exceed those figures on a stock tranny. Power does start to drop off higher up; the 3>4 shift is lower to save the TC from blooming and the weaker 4th gear from grenading.

nope shift firmness is displayed as "shift pressure %" on the X3 and u can inscrease it up to 25%.

the shift points are adjustable in increments of 1mph at a time im not sure how high u can set them but ^^^thats how i have mine set.

Wierd - okay, then you'd need a table to map what rpm's that mph figure is going to represent. It will depend on yer truck's overall geering too. AND - you'd need the initial custom tune setting as a starting point.

Wonder why they went from the obviuosly useful rpm display to this???? Glad I kept my X2, lol.

Q - why do you feel it's necessary to deviate from the tuning as supplied?

I would contact the tuning feller first before you go change anything. IMHO.

The user adjustability should be within safe values, and hopefully the tuner would only allow what he believes to be safe considering the application, but as posted, shifts should not be over 54-5,500 rpms with a stock converter. Much lower for 3-4: my wot 3-4 is set to 4,800.
Bear in mind that shifts take time, so you may be looking at a number of 5,200 for a shift, when in fact it is occurring later and at a higher rpm. You can datalog for better info.

If you are taliking about shift firmness then my is set at:

1-2=+15
2-3=+15
3-4=+10

I like the ways it fills.

lol no........ SHIFT POINTS, am i the only person that has an X3 that can adjust shift points? they can be changed +/- by MPH. example u can change shift point 1-2 by +/- 1,2,3 or whatever MPH. as for 2-3 gear, and 3-4. when you do this it will allow that gear to rev out more before shifting, causing the next gear to be at a higher RPM when it shifts and gives a nice kick.

i have my SHIFT FIRMNESS set at 25% on all shifts, and wish it was a little more firm. justin told me i can safetly go all the way to up to 25% on firmness. although my hypertech had much firmer shifts but the VMP tune is deff more power.

Are you talking about a "part throttle" shift point? If so, do whatever feels good to you. You're not going to hurt anything except gas mileage by increasing the speed where the transmission shifts up.

However, to counter something that was said earlier, I DO think some user-adjustable settings in probably ALL programmers are NOT safe. Can you set your MAX RPM to 6000? If so, I'd say that was NOT safe. Can you set your WOT shift points at 5500? - Probably not safe. Can you advance the timing by say 5 degrees, regardless of the gas you're using? Probably "safe", but the PCM will retard the timing so much if you do that, your truck will run like crap. Set your Tire Size too small and you'll get a ticket for speeding. AND, if you increase the "shift firmness" a bunch in your custom tunes, you're asking for trouble - you're putting huge stress on the mechanical components.

With custom tunes, the tuner has already adjusted everything to an optimum value. What makes you think you can do better? If you can, why aren't YOU writing tunes for people?

you obviously didnt read the thread on shift firmness that justin starkey from VMP came on and said feel free to jack the shift firmness all the way up on the tuner, it will not harm anything, and i asked him about changing the shift points and he said thats fine too. so there wont be any harming of mechanical components but thanks.

so why dont i write tunes? cuz i dont know how to and thats not my line of buisness. why change it? because their called USER adjustments. and me being the user am allowed to change them to my likings and have been told by my tuner thats its completly safe to change the settings i asked him about.

all i was saying here is i read somwhere that if you change your shift points too high, you dont gain anything at those high rpms and these engines dont produce much power up there. so i was seeing where other people set theres at, thats all.
