Tuner for my needs
Tuner for my needs
Hey everybody,
I have been stalking this area for a while reading about possible tuners for 09 4.6V. I know that gryphon is not ready yet, but after reading posts and topics I don't think I am in need of something that major/custom. I have a truck, not a race car so increasing HP is not much of a concern. I don't do heavy towing, infact I don't have a hitch on it yet anyway, but will be putting one on this summer for light towing, maybe a small camper in the future. I am just looking for something that can help with MPGs if possible and when the time comes for towing, I can get a little help. I will also be increasing tire size a bit so I would need it to calibrate my gauges. I like the gryphon and what it has to offer, but I don't think it's what I need. Can anybody offer me any recomendations? Thanks!

You want to increase your tires size "a bit"? But you are looking for " mpgs".
Hmmmmmm.....
A programmer doesn't necessarily guarantee mpgs.
Some people get better some worse.
Proper tire inflation and getting the lead out of the right foot are better and cheaper options for increased mpgs along with not exceeding 70mph.

Well I am not getting tires for a while, but even when I do I only plan on 265/75/18's rather then the 255/70/17's that I currently have. I usually keep the cruise control on 65-68 and most miles are highway. My post did seem to contridict itself though. lol
Troyer amd VMP are the only ones offering the SCT programming platform for the 09-10's. If you want one right now I'd go with them.
But if you can wait hopefully pretty soon the gryphon will be available.

I'll add that a custom towing tune for the "small" camper may be a good bet. The canned tow tunes on programmers are probably set up more for trailers in the 5-6000# range. You MIGHT be able to improve your towing performance and your mpgs with a tow tune customized for the lighter weight.
And, the tuners DO offer "economy" tunes too, which might help you a bit.
