What we are trying to say is the more you know about the situation, the better prepared you are to deal with what they try to throw at you, should there be a problem. A very high percentage have no problem if the TSB is followed but when there is one, it helps to know as much as they do.

Where can you get this tool at, any autoparts store or the dealership?

Yes, made by Lisle. Use Advanced Search and you will see it discussed, as well as the homeade one.

Maybe you've already done this, but before changing filters, plugs, cleaning this or that. Return the tune to stock and run it for a while. Heck, I'd run it long enough to get at least one or two mileage readings. I'd do this so I could compare the mileage and see if it's in the same ball park as the truck used to get (before the tuner).

Seeing that you live in the land of the cold, your mileage will be lower due to the temperature and use of winter fuels. But this could give you some insight into determining if the drop in mileage is truly related to the Gryphon or not.

I also have a custom tuned Gryphon and I track my mileage. The tuner yielded no change in mileage, but I didn't expect it to.

Ya I thought of doing it this weekend, but no time to remove the K&N and switching back to stock intake to run it completely stock

Well, I didn't put my truck to stock and run it for a couple of tanks, but, I did run 89 in my 87 perf tune and advance my timing. I'm on my second tank with the 89. The first tank it felt peppier (spelling?) so that tank is out the books since I ran 3 1/4mile times, couldn't help myself. However even running the 1/4 mile runs it still pulled off an 11.98 mpgs, better than me driving normal on the reg 87 perf tune. This tank I'm making a concious effort to drive "normal" to see what it can do.

I however have a question though, running the tune like I am is it ok for extended periods of time? I've read from someone before that it would be "ok" but obviously the tune isn't written for the 89 specifically. But what if I continuously get better mpgs with running the 89 in my 87 tune, with of course the timing advanced? I obviously feel a difference and the 1/4 mile time also says that I do chipping .3 of a sec off of my previous best with the 87 perf.

Even with winter weather, my mileage has stayed the exact same on a canned 87 tow tune, 15.7. GA basically uses winter blend fuel year round because of the 10% ethanol cut.

There is no problem running the 87 tune on 89 and bumping the timing. The problem can be when you run 89 with a 91 tune and retard the timing. Not a good idea.

I ran the 91 tune, level 3 for about 35,000 miles on 93 with the timing bumped.

What canned tunes are you guys running on? Im probably going to use the 87 tow tune for a while until I get my custom tunes and I dont feel like running the 93 performance tune because of gas.

I know when i put a k&n filter in my truck my mpgs decreased by 1-2 mpg. (not because I was down in it either). I now run just a paper filter, and got my mileage back.

Ok good. Thats all I did.

I'm thinking about asking Bill how much trouble or money it would be to switch my 93 tow tune for a 93 perf. I just don't use the 93 tow that much. Especially if I have the option to use 87 or 89(by bumping the timing) in my 87 tow tune. I think that would give me a little more flexibility. Man I wish these things could hold 4 custom tunes..........

ive also experienced the same thign with my tunes, iv had justin send me 2 tunes to help fix it, im still in the process of testing one he sent me one with an ethonal adjustment. but with my 87 perf. tune on my SCT i get worse mpg's compared to when i had my hypertech or compared to stock but deff more power.... and i only have 30k miles so its not plugs. you should try VMP justin is extremly reponsive to get you tunes or respond to any help you need.

also i didnt notice this until it started getting real cold so it may have to do with the weather for me
