Gryphon Screen Goes On and Off.

My truck does sit for a week or two at a time but I have added a Battery Tender to keep the battery fully charged when I am not driving it. I have noticed that when I start the truck sometimes the screen will not come on. I can wiggle it or unplug it and replug and it will light up but sometimes will drop out again for what seems like no reason, wiggle the unit again and it will come back on.

Are these the symtoms of the cable issue I have read about?

I would check the connection on both ends, plugging into the the data port and into the back of the Gryphon. If both ends are plugged in securely, you may have a bad cable. If you have a multimeter, you could ohm it out while moving the cable around and see if it ever shows an open line. You could also check the voltage coming out of your data port supplying power to the unit and see if it stays where it needs to be....

It's possible that it is the cable, but I highly suspect the battery. Even with the tender, does that keep it at full charge? I don't know, but I do know that the Edge/Gryphon monitors require a LOT of juice. More than anything else in the truck. I would drive it awhile and see if you have the problem after driving. The other thing is, you could have a battery that is beginning to fail, and not holding a full charge. The monitors are one of the first things that indicate this. Your truck gauges acting goofy, bouncing back and forth are another indicator.

This is what leads me to believe its a cable issue.

Get the battery load tested and if it fails replace it.
There could be cell starting to go bad.
Batteries tend to last on the average 3-5 years.
Then if the problem persists check the cable.

I am hoping it is the cable. The battery is less than a year old.

The Battery Tender is supposed to keep it at full charge. My only issue with it is I forget to plug it in sometimes.

While I was putting my E-fans in the truck sat for 3 weeks without the tender on and when I went to drive it the battery was stone dead. I charged it back to full and it seems fine. I did have the Gryphon screen issue before all this but it seems to be getting worse.

I haven't seen anything abnormal with the truck gauges.

I will check the cable plug on the truck side and see if that is tight. Thanks mdhawkin. I have been focused on the display end of the plug as that seems to fix the problem for a while at least.

It looks like PHP is closed for a while so I am trying to find some answers.

I suspect it's cold where you are too? Cold weather can aggravate some display issues in LCD displays. However, if wiggling the cable connections cause the display to correct itself, I'd be prone to suspect those connections, but not really the cable itself. You have a circuit board in the PCM side of that cable that I believe was the cause of the "cable issues". I doubt very much that wiggling the cable would fix that kind of problem.

I suppose there COULD be a cold solder joint inside the Gryphon at the cable socket that could be causing the problem. If it continues to get worse, you'll need to contact PHP.

It is cold here but my truck is a "garage queen". A heated garage to boot but I don't keep it "Florida warm" on the inside. At what temps will these start to act up?

I could see it being something inside the Gryphon too as I can just tap or wiggle the Gryphon itself without touching the cable and it will come back on.

in the teens or above 100, so temp was not it.
