Odd sound?

I noticed after putting the edge on my truck and re-programming it that it makes a sound kinda like a air leak or the belt squeeling when I step on it. I have no loss of power or CEL or anything like that. It runs just fine actually, but I am wondering if this is normal? The first time I heard it.. I freaked out. The truck seems to be running great but for some reason I feel I shouldnt be hearing a whistle sound though. As soon as I let off a little.. it stops, and there is no noise at all when idling. I have not tried setting it back to stock to see if it goes away, but I figured that I would ask anyways.

Thanks,
Brad

Any mods? Like CAI?
What level are you running?

Brad, you don't say how long this sound lasts, could it be belt slip? If you "step on it", the transmission will now quickly downshift and the engine will suddenly speed up causing the belt to slip over some of the accessories, until they are brought up to speed. If this is what it is, it seems to be harmless and can be largely eliminated with a "Gatorback" belt. But, I've just learned to live with it.

If the sound lasts the entire time you are accelerating though, it would have to be something other than belt slip. And, I don't have any suggestions at this point.

I have the "gotts" intake with a drop in K&N. I run level 2.

It doesn't even do it every time that I accelerate. If I accelerate quickly though it sounds like maybe the belt slipping. I hear the sound best when I am around 2600-3000 rpms. Once it gets up to speed and shifts down into lower rpms the sound immediately stops. When I am already moving say 50mph or so and it drops out of overdrive when I pass someone it does not make any noise. I am sure my exhaust takes away much of how loud the sound really is. Like I said it doesnt appear to affect the engine in any way, because everythings normal. I am assuming that I should maybe replace belts? The belt that I have on there currently is getting close to 2 years old, but the truck has only been getting used about 3-4 days a week with a couple road trips in between. If I was looking into replacing the belt anyways would you suggest getting underdrive pulleys as well? I have heard that they slow your accessories down, but I can always set the idle higher.

That's too many questions at once!

I'm still trying to figure out if you have belt squeal. In my case, the squeal is a fairly short (but loud) "chirp" that occurs right as the transmission shifts (and now that I think about it, it happens on an upshift during WOT acceleration - but, I don't see why it couldn't happen on downshift too).

I don't think a 2-year old belt necessarily needs replacing, and I haven't really looked at the change interval on them. It doesn't sound like you exactly beat your truck to death, so I wouldn't be in a big hurry to change it.

U-pulleys CAN increase your available power, and also improve your gas mileage. I think they can be a good modification. The only reason I haven't done it on my truck is because when I tow I want all the alternator output (for the three batteries total and DC refrigerator) as well as for the improved coolant circulation that the original pulleys give me.

2 years=how many miles?
Replacing the belt isn't that big of deal.
A gatorback belt is about the same price as the other ones.
That's what I'd recommend doing 1st.
If you do the UD's down the road you will need to get another sized belt.
Check your tensioner and idler pully's also.

Sorry! This truck thing.. its become an obsession.

I never go WOT on my truck. I have babied the crap out of it with the exception of a couple brake stands:o. I have a hard time explaining the sound I am hearing. Its somewhat of a chirp sound, but only happens during acceleration. IMO, it sounds like a CAI sucking in alot of air, but I was told it sounds like loose pulley or something by my uncle. If I accelerate slowly then all is normal, but the sound comes only on quick acceleration.

In that 2 years I would doubt that I have put 15k on it. I use the truck like I said 3-4 days a week, and all I use it for is driving to work which is an 18 mile trip one way. I have a feeling that the edge is what caused it, because before I had it I heard no such sound. I noticed the sound I am referring to the first time I drove it up onto the freeway.

I had never looked into UD pulleys, but I had figured that I might as well throw one on there if I was putting another belt on there anyways.

I appreciate your responses.

I would say 15k max.
I put the last one on there, but its definitely easier now with a body lift to get to everything.
You would recommend what?
I had considered doing UD pulleys and new belt simultaneously.
Will do!

Then probably do the UD's and the belt.
The serpentine belt is made by goodyear.
If you go to Troyer's website he's got a UD kit and the right gatorback belt for it.

Did you change any shift points with the edge?
