Once the tune is downloaded you can disconnect it if you'd like to.
Most people leave them hooked up and use them as gauges.

In this case, it would be best to remove it from the vehicle. You can disconnect it from the cable at the back of the Edge and just leave the cable and pod in place. I'd take the Edge with you, rather than leaving it in your glove box or somewhere else in the truck. And, remember to turn the ignition to ON before plugging the Edge back in.

Or, you could remove the Edge, pod and cable at home before leaving. The tune is stored in your PCM, so the Edge never has to be connected while driving.

I rather leave them at home...so disconnect the evo with the key "off" and first turn the "on"(engine off) then connect it again??

That's the way I'd do it! If the ignition is not ON, when you plug it in, it can't contact the PCM to be "booted" properly. Once it's done this though, It draws a small amount of "keep-alive" power (about 0.05 A) to maintain a "booted" state (kind of like the radio does to maintain its station presets) even if the ignition is turned off.
