Avg. Econ on Gryphon?

How accurate is the Avg. econ on the gryphon? I am not downing this programmer what so ever btw (I love it, its like it is a different truck)

My reason for asking is because when you sit at idle you can just watch the econ drop a/b .1 MPG like every 5 seconds??? IDK can somebody explain this to me? It said i got a avg. of 19.1 last tank and i did the math * how many miles i drove/gallons of fuel put in vechicle @ fill up. & it said 15.5?

So what has been y'alls experience?

I've felt it was always too high. But, according to Bill it uses a sample of 100,000 readings (about 27 driving hours or maybe 6+ tankfuls) as a database.

It's not going to match your calculations at a fillup. But, if you sit, going nowhere, the miles driven is zero and the average is going to drop - even faster if you've "zeroed" it out recently. So, when did you last "zero" it out? Last year?

Ok so my gryphon has been saying I am getting 16.7mpg the last several tanks.

I did the math: (miles driven)/number of gallons put in the truck= MPG

I got 15.2 mpg

Who is right me or the gryphon?

If you kept accurate odometer and gas receipts, you are.

Even if you went to three different gas stations and used three different pumps, the amount the 'fill' would vary (over three tanks) isn't enough to add up to 1.5 MPG.

Probably you (if your trip odometer is accurate). My truck averages 15.x mpg combining city/highway driving. And, my Gryphon has historically shown a higher value than this.

You can use the Gryphon's information in a couple of ways. If you see that it is showing a lower average than you were seeing before, then you can bet that the actual mileage you calculate at fillup will also be lower. You could simply apply the average difference to the gauge reading to get a pretty good idea of your real mileage. In your example above, the Edge said 16.7, but you calculated 15.2. So, you could just subtract 1.5 mpg from the Edge reading and you'd probably have a pretty good estimate of your actual mileage.

And, you could monitor your "instantaneous mileage" too. If it shows a low number, you KNOW you are not driving "economically". If it shows a high value, you are. So, your goal, to save mileage, would be to try to use the gas pedal and the brake in such a way as to keep the "instant" readings as high as possible. After a while, you'd be able to do this by "feel".

Gryphon said 14mpg average last tank and I calculated about 12.7 . I don't think my odometer is right though.
