Used Edge Evo Worth It?

I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on buying a used Edge Evo for my 2007 FX4? I see that there always seems to be a decent amount of Edge Evo's for sale in the classifieds, ebay, etc.... so it makes me wonder if it is even worth buying one. Some that I have seen listed the people have had for only a month or so, is it that bad where you would decide to sell it after only a month?

What are your thoughts as I do not want to spend the money just to feel that I wasted it as I am content with the stock settings on my truck. Mostly looking for the display, better MPGs, and tire size speedo correction from the Evo.

I am not looking to really do any kind of custom tuning or what not at this time.

Thanks for the help.

As long as the seller returns his truck to stock, there should not be any issues. I purchased a used Evo from a member here and have been happy with my purchase so far.

I purchased a used Edge then several months later had it upgraded to a Gryphon with custom tunes. I came out a little cheaper this way and was able to spread the amount of money needed over a period of time. You always take a chance buying a used item but there are not too many things that go wrong with an Edge. As stated just make sure it is returned to stock.

Worth every penny. I'm completely satisfied with the product and the significant difference it made to my truck.

I felt exactly the same when I bought my Edge off ebay, from an owner selling his truck. I liked the way he presented the sale, no guarantees, but nothing hidden either and very easy to contact. He sent it with all the original items, and his own bill of sale. It really corrected the things I felt were "missing" in my truck when I bought it (also used).

It not only improved the way the truck drove, but it also improved my fuel economy.

Then, I couldn't leave well enough alone and had it converted to a Gryphon. I've never felt the need to "look back".

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any of the "big name" programmers and custom tunes from the people we talk about on this forum.

I have been thinking about adding an Edge to my truck since I ordered it in April 2007. I just can't get over the worries of it causing a problem as the truck is my daily driver so drivability issues, rough idle, ECU problems, or anything makes me nervous.

Performance is not something that you get from a 6,000 pound truck - I had a heavily modified Mustang GT that I sold a couple years ago. I am mostly looking to get one for the gauges, correct my speedo for my 35's and hopefully increase the MPG's slightly.

But, as with anything that changes with the stock settings, it usually shortens the life span - which is not really what I am looking to do as I plan on driving this thing into the ground.

I am sure that I would love it if I were to get one, but is it worth the possible side effects that were mentioned above? I have been going back and forth on that one for almost 2 1/2 years now.

Wow! You bring up some interesting concerns!

I don't think a reputable programmer or reputable tunes are going to shorten the service life of your vehicle. They might just extend it. Please read the user testimonials about this subject in this forum. I would not have gotten my programmer or my custom tunes if I didn't feel they might prolong the life of my truck.

It's a bit of a crap shoot though. However, Bluejay, OpenClassPro and some others have been running custom tunes for a long, long time with no ill effects. And, talking with or paying attention to what the reputable tuners say about tunes has given me the confidence to do this mod.

I know now I would NOT want to go back to stock. I honestly think the life expectancy of your truck is more a factor of how you drive it than the tune you load into the PCM.

I agree Jack, I have 60,000 miles with a tuner and no way would I run without it.

As long as the seller isn't a *****, and sets his truck back to stock then it's a good deal.
