What Programmer & tune to buy?

I have a 06 Linclon Mark LT and i have added an K&N cold air and also Gibson duals. I have noticed that it is sluggish and then takes off. Will a new tune help and will I gain HP & MPG?

You will gain about 30 hp. More mpg may be up to you, but you will probably not LOSE mpg and have a lot more fun getting there. A custom tune will also mean more benefit from the intake. An Xcal3 or Gryphon are your best options.

Gryphon is the way to go IMO. I use the 4 gauges daily when I drive. Running the 93 tune I actually noticed a 2 mpg increase in my highway mileage this weekend.

Thank for the great info. I am averaging 18 on the highway now so I may possibly see an increase? Were did you mount the gauges? Do I buy the tunes directly from either supplier? Also do I need to go back to the original tune for inspections or if I have to take it to a dealer for service?

Please read the entire sticky at the top of this forum, the one titled "Questions About Tunes?" I think many of your questions will be answered.

The Edge or Gryphon mounts in a supplied "pod" on the left side of the dash. Completely tool-less installation. PHP writes custom tunes for you after you buy the Gryphon. If you buy an X3 from Troyer, he supplies the custom tunes for that device.

The Gryphon is the only one with custom tune capability that has the monitor. It mounts on the dash next to the windshield/door post. easy to see out of the corner of your eye. Monitors up to 22 or so items, 4 at a time. Yes, you buy the unit and the tunes from the same vendor. No, you do not have to return to stock for state inspections. Mine has passed every time with no problems.

I also have 06 Mark LT. Great to see a member with a LT. My truck was also slow on take off so I bought a SCT X3 & custom tune from VMP, now my truck can spin big 20" wheels. You can also get tunes from Troyer & PHP.

Careful about the information given in forums about tuners. 99% of people have experience with only one tuner: the one they bought. And 99% of the people who bought only 1 will say theirs is the best when they have no supporting comparative data.

The Gryphon is not the only custom tuner with a monitor.

Both Diablosport and SCT have custom tuning devices that not only have monitors, they have many more features and allow the custom tuner to modify the entire tune. The Edge/Gryphon only modify a handful of parameters in the PCM.

Can you post links of those Diablosport and SCT tuners you speak of?

True enough about the monitors, but do they have custom tuning and are they in the same price range? Last I heard, the SCT unit was nearly twice the cost and few even considered it an option.

What info would he be asking for other than personal experience? People normally know only what they have used, be it a good or bad experience. That is, unless they are selling something.

I kept the canned towing program and got an 87 Performance and a 93 Performance. If I did it over, I would do the same again. Some have gotten a 93 Towing as they do some serious towing. I don't so the canned towing program was adequate for me.

Right there on Diablo's home page, and both of SCT's devices that do this are listed in the Ford section. Google is your friend.

The posts about a custom tuner with monitors made no "qualifiers". SCT announced another product today for Ford, which adds even more capabilities. SCT has two tuner/monitors which allow custom tuning and Diablo has 1. I'm sure you can find prices on the web, but I'm not going to do that homework for someone because I have no plans to buy one. The initial poster didn't even ask about price.... perhaps a better way for him to have started the thread was to state his goals, how he drives, his mods, his budget, etc., and have people discuss what fits his needs/wants best.

What info would he be asking for other than personal experience? People normally know only what they have used, be it a good or bad experience.
True, but to make statements of fact when they are opinion, based on a limited experience, well... that does not serve the person asking the question as best it can.

That is, unless they are selling something.
I have nothing to sell except perhaps an occasional used part in the classifieds, and not any tuners that's for sure!
