Getting edge to downshift more

I messed with the downshifting points on my edge and noticed little to no difference, I want to feel it helping with deceleration when slowing down like a diesel does but by the time it comes out of 4th im done most of my braking. Anything else I can change to accomplish a little more engine braking with out making big changes to my upshifts?

You are trying to do something that is not built into these transmissions. They are designed to freewheel so there is less fuel used. I really dont think it is possible to downshift that way.

It could be that you are trying to raise the downshift points too close to the upshift points, and the Edge won't allow it. If up and down shift points cross the pcm goes brain dead, and will just shift up and down in that gear until it is corrected.

If you are driving with the cruise control on, the torque converter will tend to stay locked up when going downhill to help maintain speed using engine braking. If you come out of cruise control though, and let up on the gas, the torque converter will unlock so the engine can freewheel.

You can lock out the overdrive, which will slow you down some, even with the TC unlocked, or, you could manually shift into 2nd (what I do anytime I'm coming down a mountain) so that I get engine braking.

Sounds like what you really want is a manual transmission. That's what I'd like to have.
