Edge Level 1

I have a 2008 FX4 with 3.73 gears and when I put the edge in level 1 it shifts real hard. I ran the update from edge also and it still does it. Is there some settings I need to change or something to make this stop?

That is what Level 1 does and all it does. It removes the slippage from your shifting. It's supposed to be very firm. The built in slippage is what causes transmission more clutch wear. You may be able to soften it some by entering a negative value in the pressure adjustment. I would try -4 and see what happens if I felt I had to change it. However, it can't shift too firm for me, I would not be changing it.

Level 1 is a shift tune, Level 2 is a towing tune, and Level 3, a performance tune. One and two are for 87 octane and three requires at least 91.

Level 2 will give you much better low end torque and is good if nearly all your driving is stop and go. It runs out of power at about 1800 rpms, so doing a lot of freeway and highway driving, I preferred level 3. I ran 93 octane, bumped the timing +1 and got enough better mpg to pay for the difference in fuel cost. That was all until I got custom tunes. I now run an 87 Performance tune most of the time.

I run level 2 as my daily driver and it works good for me! You need to try level 2 and level 3 with the 93 octane just to see what you like.

You can go to custom settings and put a negative - value in for the shift firmness. That should help some more.

Go into the Custom Options Menu and adjust the Shift Firmness. But, before you do that, go to Tire Size (TS) and Gear Ratio (GR). You'll probably have to adjust one or both of these to correct values, since opening the Custom Options Menu loads simple "placeholder" values for these parameters. The TS is usually always too low, and the GR may be incorrect too.

Once you've taken care of the TS and GR, go to Shift Firmness and try "dialing" back the settings for each shift point. I'd try entering -5 for any shift you find too "hard". Scroll to "Done" when you're finished and hit <Enter> to program the PCM.

If you need to make further adjustments, the next time you open Custom Options, FIRST scroll to "Reload Previous Settings" to get back your TS and GR and then make further changes to the firmness. Any changes you make become saved in the "Previous Settings" file.
