Edge canned vs Custom tunes on stock truck

I am looking into getting a programmer (Edge or Gryphon) but I am not planning on going to a CAI or an aftermarket exhaust (at least no time soon). What I am curious about is will I benefit now getting a gryphon with my stock configuration, or could I save money and run canned edge tunes with similar results.

If I make changes to the truck in the future I can always send off programmer and get it updated, but if I don't, why pay more now?

The initial cost difference is minimal is any. I think the cheapest I have seen a new edge go for is $30 cheaper than a gryphon. I personally would give my business to a couple of great people who love what they do as much as they love their customers. The few times I have talked to and email Bill and Corey they were so nice. I am coming to a point in my life where quality is becoming more important that quantity. That price difference is so minimal when you figure in the support and just general wonderfullness (I know it isn't a word, but it works) of PHP. I know that might sound all promoting and such but I too don't have custom tunes yet (been too lazy to order one) and don't NEED them, but would like to try an 87 perf. So for a stock guy they physically might not be any different but the black case looks slightly better and the supplied silver mount matched my FX4 interior perfectly.

I had the Edge with the canned tunes for aboput 30,000 miles. I ran Level 3 with 93 octane almost exclusively due to the fact that Level 2, the towing tune really fades rapidly over 2000 rpms. I do a lot of freeway and highway driving and need reponsiveness for passing. I liked Level 3 a lot except it has dead spots for downshifting. Certain speeds, it just will not downshift and it would leave me hanging out there if I needed to punch to go. My truck is stock, but I decided to get an 87 Perf and a 93 Perf custom tune from PHP. I advise strongly to get the Gryphon and custom tunes. You get a little more HP and the shifting/downshifting is all the difference in the world. I now run the 87 Perf almost exclusively, so I an saving the 40 cents a gallon from when I was buying 93. Paid for my custom tunes in 6 months.

X3! I saw about a 0.5mpg gain over the canned Edge tunes when I got custom tunes, and, I liked the way the truck performed better. I think custom tunes are definitely the way to go.

Thanks guys, I know PHP has a wonderful reputation and that alone shold have been enough for me to not even post this. With that being said when the time comes it will be the gryphon.
