Exclamation Edge Chips

So i've heard different emotions about chipping your truck... good or bad for your truck? Whats the horsepower that you get out of the chip?

Emotions? We're talking programmers here and custom tunes, not "chips". A good custom tune can net you gains of 35 Hp and 45 ft-lbs of torque, if you have a late model f150 with a 5.4L engine. Earlier models or ones with the 4.6L engine show smaller gains. And, if the tune is written by a competent tuner like Bill Cohron or Mike Troyer, it's ALL good.

How much smaller are the gains on the 4.6's with the edge gryphon tuned?

Not enough to slay a hemi.

My stock 4WD F150 XLT SCAB 4.6L with the 3.73 rear barely gets out of its own way. No programmer is going to make it as fast as my previous hemi RAM 1500.

That said, I still prefer the F150 over the Dodge, but it's close.

If you had a hemi, why did you get the 4.6? Not flaming, just wordering. Must had got a smokin deal I bet.

OP, you will like the edge. I just took mine back to stock because I am getting ready to gryphon it and it sucks to drive now, but not as much as when it was stock!!! Congrats!!!

LOL the hemislayer name was when i made the account in 2004 .... I had a 5.4 with a few mods then. I just got a 09 with a 4.6 wish it had the 5.4 but all i can do now is mod the crap outa this 4.6 and see where it gets me. I figure if i do pretty much all the bolt on mods and the gryphon tunes it'll run close to a stock 5.4

i've got the 4.6 as well and a dual magnaflow on it. I'm interested to see what an edge chip would do to what power there is. lol

well i picked up my edge tonight and had it installed and setup in less than a half hour! just had to figure out my tire size in mm's (2610) and my gear ratio which end up being 3.73LS.....so far I love it....just need to figure out a better way of holding it down! the 3m double sided tape just isn't doing it for me!

i've seen some of those gauges held down by using an accessory dock. it probably won't be mounted on your dash but it would be alot better then the double-sided tape!!

Hey mixed, I have to admit the hemi was a lot of fun. I had a 3.90 LS rear, borla catback dual exhaust, volant cai, and a superchips tuner on the thing. I got tired of it always throwing emissions system codes and the dealer never being able to figure out what was causing it. I was using it as a daily driver and decided I needed something more economical and reliable. Having always been a Ford guy except for my momentary lapse over to the dark side, I found a low mileage 2006 F150 4WD XLT with lots of goodies, the factory tow package, and creature comforts for a really great price and I figured I could live with the 4.6 for a few years until Ford comes out with the new engines in the F150 in 2011.

The 4.6 isn't bad unless I'm pulling a trailer or a load of mulch in the bed.

I too, am curious what a programmer might do for the 4.6.

I can only quote numbers from PHP's website. They say gains of up to 25Hp and 40 ft-lbs of torque for 4.6L and 5.4L 2V engines. I suspect results from any competent tuner, such as Mike Troyer at TroyerPerformance will be similar.
