? on mods and Edge
My Edge was shipped today and I should be getting it tomorrow or Wednesday. My truck is an '06 and I have done the Gotts PVC intake and have a SIDO Flowmaster "knockoff" exhaust with 2 1/4" pipes.
I know the advantages of those mods will be better utilized with a Gryphon and custom tunes. Those are in the future. I know the '04s and '05s had some problems with running lean, and that the problem was fixed for '06.
So I shouldn't have any problems with running either level 2 or 3 until I get it upgraded to the Gryphon. Am I right with this assumption?
Also, when I send it in to get upgraded to the Gryphon, I should probably go ahead and get at least 1 custom tune at the time to make sure that it will take, then can get another by email and load it myself with the software. Is this also correct?
Thanks for all the help guys, you're the greatest!!

When you send it in to be upgraded, it's because you want at least one custom tune. You can get more than one, and the time it takes to get the programmer back will not be extended much at all if you do ask for more than one tune. Once Bill starts working on YOUR device, things go fairly quickly, since he only has to put in your input parameters once.
But, if you DO want only one custom tune at first, that's fine too. The unit will come back with the tune installed and then you can add new tunes using PHP's Pegasus software utility - email is not involved (except maybe for asking for the additional tunes).

Dang, Gentlemen! I finally have a little time to peruse the forums a bit, and it's obvious that I'm not needed!

On a serious note, thank you so much for answering Gryphon questions. We really appreciate your help!
BigBlackFord, first, let me say that "cool beans" is one of my favorite expressions, so you made me
. Second, custom tunes will always be better than canned tunes, but I'm all for saving money when possible, so I will offer this advice: Try out your Evo with the canned tunes on it for awhile. You may find that you like them just fine! If you do decide later on that you'd like to be upgraded to a Gryphon and custom tuned, we can certainly help you, but if you're happy with your canned tunes, go out to dinner with the family instead.

Corey, that advice is nice, coming from a vendor but I must disagree. I ran the Edge canned tunes for a year and a half, 31,000 miles and argued the whole time (with one guy in particular), that I was totally happy and had no need for custom tunes. I had a stock truck other than exhaust and considered the custom tunes a waste. I finally said ok, maybe Bill could help on the downshifting, so I got the 87 Perf and the 93 Perf. Well, I was wrong. Not only did Bill fix the downshifting, but the tune is just better over all. Plus, I was able to get great performance out of the 87 Perf tune and save the difference between the cost of 87 and 93. On the canned tunes, I ran Level 3, to get the performance I wanted.
So, while the canned tunes are great and offer a lot of fun driving, I feel that they should be used as an experimental period to help you when you tell Bill what you want in custom tunes.

I did point out that custom tunes are always better
, but I just feel like this economy is so stinky right now that people should save money where they can. God knows that we sure do need to look out for each other -- especially in times like this. I do agree, though, that when BigBlackFord has decided that "good enough" isn't good enough any more
, he should probably give us a shout. With his mods, the canned tunes are probably good enough at this point. (Then we'll show him what his truck can do!)
For BigBlackFord:
Okay - Stock Tunes
Good - Canned Tunes
Better - Custom Tunes
Best - Live Tuning
It's just a matter of what feels comfortable for you. I drive a 5.4L Expy, and every once in awhile, Billy takes my custom tuned Gryphon out of the truck for whatever reason he deems necessary
, and I CANNOT WAIT to get that thing back. It's like a different vehicle without it. With your Evo's canned tunes, you'll wonder how you ever even drove with stock tunes, and with custom tunes, you'll wonder how you ever even drove with canned tunes. Bluejay is right on the money with his posts; I just hope that you understand mine, too.
I will quit blabbering now.

Any word on whether theyve fixed the power cable issue for 97-03 f150's yet? And also, not trying to thread hyjack..but my truck reads at 161K miles, but really there are only around 156K miles..(this is due to the fact of running 4:56 gears with 35's with no speedo correction)..is it worth still buying a tuner for my truck?? any advice?
