Has anyone out there in F150 land, installed a banks ottomind programmer in their F150 ??.

I Found one For Sale Brand new for $159. and bought it.

Just want to Know the Good. The Bad and The Ugly about it.

Thanks for your Help

Be careful with canned tunes and a CAI. The 2004-2005s are highly susceptible to running lean without custom tunes.

The drop in will not cause any "lean" problems. It doesn't upset the MAF sensor's expected environment.

I ran the drop in for 31,000 miles on the stock tune, 30,000 on Edge level 3, before I got my custom tunes, and now have 20,000 on the custom tunes.

Now I have a question. I have a 2008 FX4 5.4 and i was going to install a exh, cai, and later a Edge prog. Now i keep reading that it will possibly run lean. Will I be ok if I just run an exh and CAI? Thanks again for your comments.

I just got the programmer this past thursday 2/26/09, it does not have a tune in it .
I had to get the strategy code from my computer, and I have to sent the programmer, back to banks for them to install the proper tune.
just sent it out today 3/2/09 and will be awaiting its return.

regards

the banks programmer comes with no tune in it, you need to get the strategy code from your onboard computer, then you call banks with the code and they give you a return # so you can send in the programmer and they program it with the right info from your strategy code....and off you go.

My neighbor has an 06 5.4 Screw and he just bought a banks programmer from some site online for $150. It may be the same site your talking about. He just received his back from banks and he's been impressed with it so far. He still has the stock intake and exhaust so he doesn't have to worry about it running lean. I haven't riden in his truck since he got the programmer but i'm interested to see how it compare's to my edge.

hey pooh,
I just got the Programmer back from banks and I just installed it, it works alright, Having permanent Rush hour traffic here in Seattle, I have not had a true Chance to Really open it up, I tried once last night and I got severe knocking, and i have it set on 87 octane performance, and I am Running Crap Shell gas in the Truck right now, once I go through this gas, it will be filled with good Chevron 89 octane, and then I will see what it will do then, and I hope it will not knock anymore...

the throttle response has improved, and it shifts much better.
