tune and exhaust question

I plan on getting the 3 basic things done to my truck. Custom tune, intake, and exhaust, in that order. I plan on running the gryphon, K&N intake, and then the roush offroad.

My question is since I'm going to order the tuner 1st with my intake I'm going to get, does it matter to have the exhaust in the tune also? Its all in timing, I'm probably not going to get the exhaust in a while after the tune and intake and don't want to have to wait to utilize the custom tuning ontil I get the exhaust, or does it even matter about the exhaust?

Also, if I plan on removeing the rear cats on my 04 will the truck be affected if not custom tuned for it? I thought that I could do anything to the exhazust and it will have no affect to the tune, just what's infront of the throttle body.

Just a cat-back doesn't need to be tuned. If you do high flow cats or long tube headers, those mods will need to be tuned.

You cannot tune exhaust. Its mechanical, nothing electronic about exhaust. The only thing the tune will do is disable the rear O2 sensor readings so you wont ever get an engine light from cat work.

you have to rewrite the tune if you add long tube headers, or so I thought

If you can still get inspected after removing them I would certainly do it. It just frees up restriction, the truck isn't tuned for the cats. The rear O2s are also mounted before them, so you may as well chop them up and enjoy your added sound and couple extra pounds of torque.

Also, I really like the stance of your truck. By next month i'm expecting to buy some Pro Comp 18x9s and 285/65/18 BFGs, hope my wheels and tires look exactly like yours does.

I really want to remove the rears with the ROR. I think it would sound awsome and more deaper. I never heard a truck with the ROR and the rear cats removed.

Thanks. I really like the stock rims, they look really good to me. The 285s I really like and they handle great in the snow, I barely used 4x4 this winter. I like the height over the stock tires around 2" taller, but I wish they were like an inch wider.

Theoretically speaking... It is posts like these, when people think they know something. yes the truck is 'tuned' for cats. Oh wait, my bad, ford never thought of dumping extra fuel to cool the cats or any other modifiers to the OBD2 and catalytic system to control how emissions are controlled.

And also maybe you should how load and exhaust work hand in hand, do you know what a Load w/ Failed MAF table is and what it is used for?

Keep the cats get the tuner, intake, exhaust good tuners will give free revs for 6 months after you get the tuner. Go to crazy and you will be married to a dyno for the rest of your trucks life.
