Sounds to me you're sold on your buddy. I'd go with my gut, probably.

I WILL point out though, that you could get a Gryphon, which HAS the gauges built in and three custom tunes for less money from www.PHPTune.com It would not be dyno tuned, but Bill Cohron's customer support is top notch, and he would fix any problems you might have. I DO know, however, that a completely new tune (if you heavily modded it later) would cost you, but the cost is not excessive and is on their website.

My biggest concern is that these trucks are supposed to be a lot different from tuning Mustangs. My gut would tell me that I needed to go with an Xcal3 from Troyer or a Gryphon from PHP. These guys know these trucks inside out when it comes to tuning.

Now if your goal is to get every last bit of HP out of it, then I can see where the dyno would maybe be important. For me, the extra 25 or so HP PHP's tunes gives me is enough. It's a truck, not my race car.

This is old, I know. But I'm wondering how this turned out. I have a Predator and am 100% not happy with it. There's a shop in town that does custom tunes for it on a dyno (just like this guy) and I'm wondering if the custom tune is worth it, or if I should just go with a Gryphon instead.

you guys also need to consider the SCT LiveWire, it has the same guage features as the gryphon and can be custom tuned as well

So the local guy wants $300 per tune. I told him he was out of his ****ing mind and hung up the phone. I'll either look for anther shop, or go with a Gryphon

$300 is about the going rate for 1-2 runs on the dyno.
But I do agree that he is high on his per tune costs.
The other thing to look at is each tune is truly a custom tune.
Heck that's what I pay for my harley everytime I test 2-3 tune files on the motorcycle.

I found antoher shop willing to do the dyno runs and a tune for $150. I made another thread about it. But from what you're saying, and dyno tune is better than the emailed tunes, right?

Yes as long as the tech whose running the dyno knows what he is doing.
That shops reputation should proceed them especially if they are good. If they have had complaints you'll know that too!
Email tunes are based off of your pcm's hex calibration code and they are good also.
They are also as good as the guy putting them together.
A dyno will allow more fine tuning than an email tune to see what's actually going on.

Twin turbo GT500 sounds legit enough to me. I think I'm gonna go with these guys. And they're only asking $150 for dyno time and a custom tune. They work with trucks too
