I feel pretty retarded for asking this. But from what I understand, the Gryphon is pretty much an Edge Evolution, with better tunes programmed into it...Correct?
I was kind of leaning towards the Edge because it had the display module with it, but doing research on the Gryphon...it seems like it has the identical display module with it.

The Gryphon is an Edge Evolution, just wrapped in a different color housing, and the Gryphon has the ability to be loaded with custom tunes. If you have mods to your trucks such as an intake and exhaust then you would want the Gryphon so it can be programmed with tunes made specifically for your application. If your truck is stock however, then the Edge Evolution is what you need because it is tuned for a stock truck.
You are correct when you say you need to custom tunes if you are going to have mods, such as a CAI, but I disagree about the canned tunes for a stock truck. I ran the Edge canned tunes for 30,000 miles and Bill's custom tune for my truck is far superior. I can't begin to describe the improvements he made in the downshifting characteristics. The custom tune is well worth the money, even for a near stock truck such as mine.

I do Believe I will need the custom tunes. I am going to buy an S&B intake and Magnaflow exhaust for my '04 5.4...I am over seas, so all mods will be done in month or 2 when I get back stateside.
Looks like I am going to add a Gryphon to the list also. Which tunes would be the best for the intake and exhaust? I would like to have the option of max power, and another option for good fuel economy.

Thanks Blue for pointing that out to me. I hadn't actually thought about having custom tunes for a stock truck because most people that have to custom tunes have some mods. I haven't had any personal experience with the Gryphon yet as I am getting ready to order one myself.

If you haven't figured it out yet, you can have 3 tunes plus your stock tune in the hardware at any one time.

Before you purchase ANYTHING, please check out the posts on these links. You just might be able to save a few bucks.

Cold Air Intake
The kd4crs/Power Hungry/Gotts Mod (revisited - and with pictures)
They are the same hardware and come with the same canned tunes. The major difference is that the Gryphon comes with the option of custom tunes that are superior to the canned tunes. Plus, with the Gryphon, you get the great customer service that comes with doing business with PHP.

(Thanks!)
I have a question for Bill. I looked at Jack's fine write-up and the nice "dirty" pics (Jack, why did you not post the same wrtite up on F150online?) and am wondering. Is there any problem with running it without the snorkel? Then it is sort of like the Airaid Jr.
