Banks Exhaust and Edge Evo...Problem?
Well I haven't turned it back to Level 2 yet because I have just been running it on the stock setting and it is running good but I think I am going to retry it on 2 and see what happens....
Well I put it back on Level 2 after I got gas yesterday and as I was leaving town it seemed to be doing the same thing as well as somewhat missing as you tried to get up to speed so I pulled over and put it back to stock and the truck ran fine? Once you would get up to cruising speed on level 2 it was fine but just at certain ranges it didn't seem to run very good and I don't feel like leaving it on level 2 to see if it will try and learn it because i am afraid I am going to ruin something by running it like that?...I don't know what is wrong but I think I might just upgrade to the gryphon and be done with it but I just don't see why it is running like crap when i put it on that setting?
Well I got the Single Banks Monster Exhaust for my 08 5.4 supercrew and I installed it on Thursday night and then I test drove it last night and it seemed to run really good. I also installed an AEM dryflow filter and I have an Edge Evo on the 2nd level. Today when I was heading back to school the truck seemed to run a little weird at certain times. When I was cruising through a town doing about 35-40 I let off to slow down to about 25mph and then accelerated back up to about 35 and held it there throughout town and it seemed to kind of miss a little bit for a second and then it went away.?.? So I kept doing the similar thing and it did it most of the time but it would also seem to run a little rough or miss at other times that I don't remember.
So I got back to school and returned the truck to the stock tune and then drove it around town and out on the interstate to see if it helped and it seemed to have gotten rid of the stumble that I mentioned above and didn't do anything funny except when I would put it to the floor and it would lag like they do and kind of stumble for a second until it would take off but I think that is because of the sudden WOT position and the lag that is known in these trucks.
So my question is that are these exhausts meant to be able to run with the stock setup without any change or I don't know for sure what to do or think? I am probably going to get my Edge converted to a gryphon which might solve the problem but I can't believe that the stock setup wouldn't substitute for the exhaust because I removed the positive and negative battery cables like Banks said to reset the computer so it can learn the airflow but I am just confused as to what is going on or if anybody else is having the same problem? I hope I didn't leave anything out!
I was also going to mention that I live in Iowa and it was below 10 degrees all day long but didn't know if that has anything to do with it but I think that is affecting the gas mileage!

Do you think I should update my edge? I just updated it about a month ago so I would think it should be fine? I think I am just going to send it in an upgrade to the gryphon and solve all of the problems...Do I need to update it before I send it in?

Well I took the Edge out and dropped it in the mail to upgrade to a gryphon with an 89 custom performance tune for my mods, so everything should be good to go now except for the wait until I get it back! Hopefully it performs for me like it has for everyone else that owns one or has upgraded to a gryphon! Thanks guys
lemme know how you like it. The only really problems I am noticing with mine is I've had to leave it unplugged since it has been so cold and the screen wont work. I do get a littl cackle when i slow down also but that don't bother me so much?
Well I sent the Edge in last week for custom tunes and an upgrade and it is already in the mail on its way back to me with the custom tune on it! Talk about a fast turnaround...I will let you know how it does!
Well just installed the gryphon programmer today with the 89 performance tune and it is doing the same thing as the edge on level 2 was doing?? It will cut out if you softly accelerate to around 25-40 mph range and that is where it doesn't like something because if you accelerate mildly to hard there is no cutout or hesitation in that range but if you let off in that range and then try to get back on the gas it will hesitate and cut out as it tries to regain speed...seems to be the range that most of the problem occurs and it also seemed like at 60 mph if you would let off and try to get back on the gas it seems like it isn't as responsive as I am thinking it should be or hoped the gryphon would fix...So I really can't tell that the gryphon has done much because the problem is still there that occurred with the edge and the truck just doesn't seem to run very smooth with a tune or isn't liking something...But the truck runs fine in stock mode with the exhaust and drop-in filter except for the hesitation and sluggishness that is usually common with the trucks....I have contacted Bill at PHP and he was going to look into it so I don't know what the deal is but I am getting frustrated with trying to get the truck to run how it should!!
Bill, if you're reading, this sounds like the sensitivity problem I've been having. Returning to stock eliminates the problem almost 100%. Problem evident with both Stage 1 and 2, haven't tried 3. I think it's worse on 2 than 1.
The main symptom was drastically enhanced when I switched from stock exhaust to Roush OR dual rear exhaust: the exhaust rumble will come up when I'm accelerating through the gears (moderately accelerating, I'm trying to squeak out decent mileage, not mash the pedal), then if I'm on a road filled with potholes and my foot(/the pedal) are moving a little bit, the exhaust sound will drop out, then roar, then drop, then roar... over and over quickly (less than one second each) until I either let off the gas and coast or stomp the throttle and get through it.
I haven't noticed this on the freeway, though there are considerably fewer situations where the pedal will be moving this way when I'm on the freeway. Seems to be restricted to 20-40mph when moving through the gears, and I'm pretty sure it's all before the converter locks.
My theory: The gas pedal is incredibly sensitive with programmer, causing WOT conditions when the pedal is pressed, even though it's very quick/short (and accidental).

SilvrBrute, I wonder if the "hesitation" you're feeling is something in the shifting/torque converter strategy? What do you see when you monitor that PID? You might be able to get rid of this behavior by changing the normal TC lock/unlock points, probably in the 3-4, 4-3 upshift/downshift range.
