New Edge Evo

I took the plunge and bought an Evo from TNR Performance in Tifton GA. I installed it yesterday.

I am terribly disappointed. I set it to the 87 tow but did not notice one single bit of difference.

I am going to go try some of the custom settings others have posted. Hopefully it will make a difference, otherwise she is going back!

Next time I fill up I'll get 93 octane and try out Level 3, but I would really prefer to stick with 87 octane. Until I graduate this spring, I can't afford to be using premium fuel.

UPDATE: I never did return the thing. I returned it to stock a few days ago to update the monitor in hopes of fixing some issues. I haven't reprogrammed it yet, but man do I miss the tune. I guess after getting used to the tune and going back to stock it really does make all the difference in the world...

No, Level 2 is the 87 tow.

I played with the customizable parameters. I like the firm shifting, but I don't think firm shifting is worth $399.29.

It does make a difference at WOT, but I don't open the throttle all the way too often.

well, are you wanting gas mileage? i would go custom tuning if thats the case. talk to PHP (power hungry performance) don't expect to barely get on the gas and have a huge difference, WOT is where you are gonna feel the difference for the most part. i can tell you my dads truck had an edge, traded with PHP and got a gryphon, made a huge difference.

I was looking for more power across the band. I realize that <1500 rpm isn't going to produce much, but even between 2-3000 there was not an improvement. I couldn't tell the difference unless I stomped on it.

Better mileage is just a perk of having more power, since the timing and injection adjustments help ensure that more of each given unit of fuel is combusted, maximizing the energy yield.

I just got my Edge evo yesterday and love it. And I only have it on level one and I could definitely tell the difference. Im going to bump it up to level 2 today and see if there is a difference and I didnt mess with anything just put it on level 1 and went. Not sure why yours isnt working how you like.

I bought one based on the great reviews all the tuners from PHP, Edge, VMP, etc get.

I'm not sure why the wow factor wasn't there...but I boxed it back up and will call the store about a return on Monday.

I'll try a Gryphon when I get my diesel next fall/winter. A tune gets alot more power out of the diesel, especially compared to the gasoline.

What was the calibration (HEX) code from your truck? What year truck do you have? Do you have any mods? Details, details...

Yeah... You should have seen some reasonable gains. That's a pretty popular calibration and usually works quite well. Sorry to hear that you're disappointed.

Not trying to add insult to injury, but for the 399.00 you spent, you could've purchased the Gryphon and picked up a custom tune for a few dollars more. Ah well... The diesel awaits, eh?

Take care.

Would a custom tune make that much of a difference? I am under the impression that the custom tunes are primarily used to account for mods. I am now finding out that the 97-03s could only realize gains upwards of 15 hp...the 04+ can get 40. I am guessing that is where my disappointment lies. Even if I was running Level 3, I'd only get 15 hp at the most. I doubt I could even feel that.

I can feel alot of difference on an identical load between our Kenworth T880 with a 450 Cat vs the Mack CH600 w/ 350 Detroit, but that is 100 hp...6.6 times that of the Evo.

40 hp?!! i wish i gained that. although i have the 4.6, my dad has a tuned gryphon with just a replacement K&N filter on his 5.4, and i know he picked up HP but no way in hell 40. maybe 20-25 hp. and it made a HUGE difference.
Justin at VMP estimated i would pick up about 15 hp or so with the 87 performance tune. and it made a huge difference. after my lift my truck was the biggest turd, it was a PIA to get up to 80 mph merging was terrible. with the tune and intake the truck actually pulls pretty good now. i beat a lifted f150 5.4 scab with my 4.6 screw.

I think the sticker on the box for the 04-08 said up to 40.

i highly doubt that. that means stock f150 should be throwing down about 255-260 on the dyno. i have seen f150 dyno sheets on the website with full exhaust (including headers) and intake barely making 270ish HP. so i really don't believe that. you have any friend who have custom tuning? didn't you say you were located in georgia? PHP is between atlanta and athens i believe and they could hook you up pretty good
